The only positive thing you can say is it makes it really easy to tune out the screeching. The bad news is how much you have to tune out.

Thankfully in this new media environment, you get what you click. The less you click on a given type of content, the less you get....

Now, I do see the potential problems with that, but trying to find and see rational words that oppose ones mindset is purposeful work that should be done by is all.

Thank goodness tho that the cable news rant era is effectively over.

Chris, you failed to mention the most earth shattering news of the last three days. The Blue Origin mission with all-female crew (I guess they can define a woman when they want to) which the main stream media declared re-defined space exploration in just ELEVEN minutes. I am in awe at their accomplishments, it takes me 11 minutes to complete my mission in the bathroom on a good day. Somehow, I think the result my mission in the bathroom is about as important to humanity as the result of Gayle King, Katy Perry and Lauren "Botox" Sanchez and others trip into space . . .

Blue Origin is apparently the world's most expensive and elaborate amusement park ride, devised as a me-too vanity project for Jeff Bezos, who is to Elon Musk what Evel Knievel was to Neil Armstrong. In terms of space travel, it breaks no new ground (the first US manned sub-orbital flight was in 1961), adds nothing to science, and its contribution to humanity is some cool memories for Bezos' favored elites.

Whenever you read something panicky, just replace it with:

"AaAAaaaAAeeeEEeEeeAaaaAAAhhhAA!"

If you can do a good Johnny Weismüller-impression, so much the better.

Over here, the Good Guys Newsoutlets - "All the news that's fit for you!" - are in a weird combination of smugness and panic.

Smugly stating that "Europe can defend itself": which while being objectively true, ignorers what we actually would need to defend against - islamic invasion - and instead points to Russia as a military threat, while also mocking the failure of Putin's "two-day operation" in Ukraine.

Panicking over Trump "being in control of NATO", see above.

Smug that a handful of US academics have read job ads from Swedish universities, and crowing "They want to come here where we have academic freedom", while ignoring all the court proceedings against academics the research of whom yields not politically correct results, and that a lot of research topics are de facto banned due to political control over the ethics committees, or that every board of directors for a uni has at least one politician present at meetings, functionoing as a kind of unarmed kommissar.

Panicky over young people not watching state & regime-loyal media.

"AaAAaaaAAeeeEEeEeeAaaaAAAhhhAA!" indeed, chest-thumping optional.

Good to know you are still kicking around. I was about to send out a search party, just in case. I would like to add: If I hear or read 'Maryland Man' one more time, I am finding the one functional clock tower that still exists in these United States, and I am climbing it. Every time I think these people can't get any dumber...they go and completely redumb themselves. A Senator of the aforementioned United States is going to go to El Salvador and read President Bukele The Riot Act because a citizen of El Salvador is now very unfortunately living in El Salvador again. AND THAT IS BAD: SO HE IS GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. A U.S. SENATOR: Elected. We have to be at the Peak. This has to be the top.

The thing is that Trump 2.0 is doing so many things to so many different groups that the "outrage du jour" manufacturers simply can't keep up. Plus Trump 2.0 clearly doesn't give a $expletive about what the outrage merchants say and he has underlings who are able to tie the MSM outrage merchants into rhetorical knots.

Of course it helps that Trump 2.0 is in proactive mode not reactive mode. He's setting the agenda and forcing others to do what he wants or at least react to what he says/does instead of letting others set the agenda and forcing him and his administration to react. I made a note about that here WRT West Taiwan - https://substack.com/@francisturner/note/c-108367633

I had a similar experience amidst a group who were pearl-clutching that a certain federal agency was being decimated and in chaos via "sources", cited an NPR article.

Then you read it, and decimating chaos equals the following impacts: a website ALMOST went dark...and that's not all--people were doing due diligence reviewing contracts which made other people nervous.

The horror.

At the beginning of the month, Cory Booker held the Senate floor for 25 hours, giving the longest speech in Senate history. It absolutely electrified the whole country, and the world, and changed the course of American political history. Apparently it even “embodied the prophetic tradition that has long animated America's moral progress.”

It must not have been that important, for this is the first I've heard of it.

Living my life, caring for my family, even working each and every shift.

Days off, quiet and calm. Daily living a balm.

With nary a disquiet in the weave I've felt.

It's just another cry in the communists belt.

I'm trying man, to move to a 120 year old house on the prairie in a town of 175, but the house is not habitable yet, and it's hard to get people out there to do what you need done. And some of the people you do get out there really suck, and you have to fix it up behind them. It's been a year now. I'm hoping before the end of the year.

Thank you, sir. I think we are okay. I took a new job and moved a year ago, so we knew nobody in the area. We contracted with the wrong outfit last May and by the end of October they had not started, so we got our deposit back. Where we are now, we should have been last August. We had a basement built under it. The excavator is a good guy. The concrete mason is kind of a bullshitter, and we should not have allowed him to touch anything that was not a CMU and mortar. The plumbers who updated the water line left the old line active for inappropriate reasons, which is a disaster waiting to happen. Should be fixed next week. I expect a proposal for HVAC by the end of this week. I am splitting the original bathroom into two 3/4 baths myself. I have summer to get one of them functional in my spare time which is mostly just weekends. There is much more to this story. I'm okay with some electrical, plumbing, framing and finish. I don't do roofs, but I don't need one right now. I sistered the bathroom ceiling framing that was sagging, and I was waiting for the basement guys to finish the foundation work to finish levelling the floor. Now I want to make sure the HVAC guys wouldn't prefer me to leave the floor open until they are done.

Expand full comment
Gen Chang's avatar

In regards HVAC, have a couple contractors to consult with a plan, even if it's just an initial walkthrough, get the best ideas. Open framing until ALL your mechanical's are completed is the best especially if you need inspections. Typically, those would be done before your allowed to insulate and cover. Not sure what your code authority is out in a rural area.

Mini splits. Just did six. To replace my unit that the epa won’t allow repairs any longer, it’s got the dreaded r410a. So six mini splits with the dreaded R410a are ok. At 349.00 each. Vs 8-10 k for a new system.

Interesting..... Did you have to upgrade electrical circuitry?

Expand full comment
Alan Devincentis's avatar

Each bedroom was wired individually on their own breaker. Being that three out of the four bedrooms are unoccupied most of the time, I poked through an outside wall receptacle box ( probably not code, but box on inside, block wall, box on outside, Romex, I can’t see an issue) so now each mini split is on the breaker for its room. They only draw about 7 amps max, so no issues. There is nothing else on those circuits except wall outlets. There one in our bedroom I did the same, pretty much. A little different but still no load in the room. Then the two in the main part of the house, similar deal. The electrician that wired this house was a wizard. So many circuits individualized. It’s working perfectly. One unit I have to change out as it’s a very low seer and was the first one I installed, and now realize it’s not an inverter. So I’ll probably put it in the garage, and put a newer one in that room.
