It’s been three days since CBS News Marketwatch rolled its eyes at the claim that the US is low on diesel fuel:
But while inventories of diesel and gasoline are lower than they historically have been, the tight supply of diesel fuel is no cause for panic, and the U.S. is not going to run out of it, according to energy market experts.
On Tuesday, headlines indicating that the U.S. is down to a 25-day supply of diesel proliferated. Fox News host Tucker Carlson last week tweeted that "this country is about to run out of diesel fuel."
The current limited supply, however, does not mean the U.S. will be out of diesel — used to fuel trucks and heating systems — in that time period.
“According to energy market experts.”
Meanwhile, search for “diesel” on Twitter to get real-time reports from the road:
Do not trust this diesel fuel pump that claims to be empty, citizen. This has been debunked by experts and factcheckers. Pump is liar!1
See also. And the business press was warning about imminent diesel shortages in the Southeast last month, so CBS might want to shop for better experts.
I’ve sent email messages to the big truck stop companies asking about current diesel supplies, and will post responses as I get them. If you’re on the road and see diesel pumps with signs saying there’s no fuel, send word. And the opposite: If you’re out road-tripping and see that every stop has diesel, that’s also good information. Comment here, and say when and where.
This moment is becoming a familiar one, as we struggle to find out what’s real through a thicket of nonsensical news media debunkings and false fact-checks. But platforms like Substack give us a chance to crowdsource a widely shared contact with reality.
Pump may have participated in January 6!
"Pump may have participated in January 6!" LOL!
Thanks for investigating this!! We can't get real news anymore!
I think what they meant is that the RIGHT people aren’t going to run out of diesel.
