The 1960's are over. The boomer leftist activists of the 1960's lost in the 1980's, had a resurgence in the mid 00's because of bad economic policy, and now they are almost dead. The funny thing is when they lost in the 1980's they reaped the rewards of a workable economic system. They gave in to a working deregulated economy and threw themselves into it. They got rich, and then their stupid, entitled, educated by boomer leftist professor kids took over again. The problem was their kids were educated by morons into the weird social pseudoscience of Marxist identity politics and fake sexual nonsense that worked in the 1960's and 1970's. Now it's all performative hysterics. Their current revolutionaries are reddit tier weaklings with trash can lids and 12 identifiable DSM-5 disorders. They shoot fireworks at buildings and support terrorists and murderers while destroying the same systems that educated and created them. None of this will work out well for them. So they flail, just like Madeleine Dean, who probably watches MSNBC like it's an IV drip. That IV bag is currently running out of saline....and I am here for it.
"who probably watches MSNBC like it's an IV drip..."
I know many people who fit in this category. They are some of the most ill-informed people on the planet. These are the types who think Joy Reid is a genius. There's really nothing more to say.
That's hilarious! She is insufferable. After listening to her lie from her little pulpit over and over again during Covid, I can't imagine people taking her seriously.
I had some of the same thoughts. Could we go back to hippies protesting the Vietnam War, civil rights and free speech? It would seem so tame and refreshing.
Hippies demanding a cut-and-run pullout and abandoning South Vietnam with not even $$ aid created the Cambodian Genocide. So, no, they weren't just a bunch of fun kids.
Hippies also brought about the likes of Ted Kazinsky, The Manson Family, Symbionese Liberation Army with Patti Hearst, Black Panthers, Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Students for a Democratic Society. These antiwar groups became violent protest groups as well as anti-establishment groups, leading to a huge shift in culture and education in this country that puts us where we are now with our legal and justice system, education, political progressivism, and social systems.
(I was raised in San Francisco and coastal California 1955-1978 by conservative parents. It was a wild time being logical, critical thinking, and conservative Christian during that time, but good for becoming a strong adult.)
We had similar experiences. Grew up in SF around the same time, remember Patti and the SLA, Zodiac, the Black Panthers, and Berkeley becoming “Berzerkeley.” Haight-Ashbury was a thing when I was a schoolboy; I don’t have fond memories of the Hippies or of seeing acid casualties on the sidewalks. I think my conservatism is in large part a reaction to all of that.
We were seeing the same things and realizing it was the wrong viewpoint. We got out with sanity. I appreciated being able to go to college and clearly understand that what they were beginning to teach regarding Feminism, Native Americans, Socialism and Communism, Racism, economic injustice, and ecology (the original term for "saving the planet"), all had the same goal of destroying the the United States as a Constitutional Republic. It was challenging to be a History/English major (I wanted to teach History in high school), but I did well in classes because I studied and used facts to back up any opinions I had. I also had open-minded professors, although very liberal, who enjoyed discussions with someone who didn't always agree with them.
I should add I don't actually know what hippies were in all their complexity, I'm making an internet comment not a scholarly statement.
That said, celebrating and promoting things were always present but that if run beyond "just a bit of that" ultimately break society and make most participants sad doesn't strike me as a path to a healthy nation or happy lives.
The last 2 – 👍. The war? NFW. The MFers protesting the war didn’t know jack 💩 other than they personally were cowards. 5 members of my family (including me) served in the military because the world is like a schoolyard: there are aggressors, defenders and sheep. Some of our sheep were desperately afraid they might have to defend something. It has always been so: in the 1860s, the NYC draft riots were so bad that Federal troops fired canister rounds (shotgun pellets) into throngs of violent rioters. (Hmmm, gives me an idea re: current Ivy League anti-Semitic riots…)
You are right, those protesting the war were being used, but were too dumb to know it. Those who defected were cowards. I knew many who went and didn't want to, but they served anyway. It wasn't an easy time for anyone.
Those of us at home did our best to support those who served. We have to let them know we are here, pushing for their benefits, healthcare, family support and housing, re-entry support, and for stability in this country since they are elsewhere fighting (supposedly) for our freedom. We here must make sure they come home to a country that's strong economically, socially, culturally, and globally, and has a stable future for their families. Right now, we aren't giving them that.
We had to go to the San Francisco airport a lot when I was a kid to get my dad. My mom encouraged my sister and me to go over to any serviceman and thank him for his service, and welcome him home or wish him well as he left. They met protestors, and Hari Krishna, but they also met us. We both still thank anyone who serves because it's important. Lots of care packages have been sent to service friends over the years, too, packed with their favorite snacks and comfort goodies, and words of support.
Thank you for what you and your family have done for our country. It's not easy on those of you who have served, or those who were at home, but a lot of us appreciate the sacrifice of time and relationships you make to do what you were called to do. We know it costs much.
The assholes LARPing on campuses are the GRANDchildren of the Boomers, or more correctly, their evil spawn. The Boomers could all die off today with no effect on the misery they planted 60+ years ago. (BTW, I'm a Boomer too.) The degenerate political/sociological philosophies that galvanized campuses in the 60s are alive and well today. Universities try to hire only adherents to The Dogma™.
Our hope is the disappearance of a market for graduates with this mental disease. Part of that is denial of Federal funds, and part is an increasing number of employers seeking rational and mature new hires. More and more employers are realizing that long-term employees will leave if faced with an intolerable work environment, akin to urine constantly in the watercooler.
The degenerate philosophies that galvanized campuses in the 60's were promulgated by the faculty who were not Boomers. At the end of the 1960s the oldest Boomer was 24 and not in charge of anything. The youngest were still in grade school. I saw a similar screed the other day about the Chicago 7. Just for grins, I looked them all up. Silent Generation all except for Dellinger who was so old they hadn't started naming generations yet. Cultural figures like the Beatles and Dylan were also Silents. The politicians were all Greatest Generation except those who were older.
That said, Boomers (having been raised generally in rational households) arrived on campuses comprised of a full spectrum of political thought, and an abnormal % gravitated to the Left. Worse, a huge % of that cohort has remained there. I’m
mindful of Churchill’s comment (Not liberal at 20 = no heart; Still liberal at 40 = no brain). Perhaps I’m guilty of emphasizing what I personally witnessed, but I was astounded at the number of Boomers who arrived on campus back then and who’ve only just recently left in a hearse, fingers reflexively grasping at any available fixed object.
Boomers were not the authors, but they were the most eager audience in history to be hornswoggled. A primary school student with no knowledge of taxation or economics can explain the fallacy of combining voluntary work with the equal sharing of output.
Some split the Boomers into two generations. The later ones were less likely to have come from intact families. They also hit the job market after the 75 recession. They were more conservative, bleeding into Gen X attitudes.
And of course it's all backwards as well. The J6ers were an insurrection and threat to "our democracy" that needed to be given the harshest possible sentences for ... um ... in most cases walking through the building being guided by various officers. The actually violent masked protestors at Columbia, on the other hand, are just people using their first amendment rights despite ... umm ... actually blocking entrances and stopping students from having access to resources they need.
J6, Trump in general, Brexit and AfD in germany are all threatening the elite view of "democracy" where various parties with almost indistinguishable policies take it in turns to do what the Deep State establishment says they should do
And regarding Columbia I am extremely happy to learn that NYPD, ICE etc. are arresting the protestors and, according to reports, invalidating the visas of any foreigners involved.
There also was just a riot at the University of Washington that did $1-million+ in damages to university property. News, of course, describes it as a mere "protest."
Maybe the cost of property damage by students could be tacked on to their student loans - and their interest rates increased - until the nonsense stops.
And that is why we don’t hate the media enough. If their side protests, yet destroys, it’s “mostly peaceful “. If the other side protests, it’s “destroying democracy” despite no actual destruction of anything.
The J6 people were held without being charged. Because they could torture them in prison as long as they didn’t charge them with their actual crime (in most cases it would have been a fine). Which is unconstitutional.
So just charge the entitled leftists with what they actually did quickly and efficiently.
If those students were serious, they’d use the library to study for finals. Then, at the end of the term, they’d buy a ticket, fly to Gaza and protest and riot over there. But they aren’t serious. It’s the equivalent of playing dress-up with mommy and daddy’s clothes and makeup.
Actually go to Gaza? Are you crazy? First of all, I have no idea where it is. Second, I just want to act like a radical. It’s a great way to get dates. I don’t actually want to be a radical. Too dangerous. Plus I spend August on the Vineyard. Going to Gaza doesn’t fit my schedule.
Blue York and Californica need to go for sure. probably Oregon too, and I know there's more high population overrepresented BlueNoMatterWho™ strongholds that should be off in their own democratic-socialist "paradise" of a country
A bad marriage, yes; but we keep it together for the children. If the Obamas managed to—HOW they managed to I’ll never understand—we’ve got it easy. They’ve got beachfront properties—plural—5,000 miles apart, and still can’t stand each other. Think how hard it is for Idaho and Oregon to coexist—at least that narrow strip of the Willamette Valley that hasn’t already petitioned to secede from Oregon and join Idaho. But the point is that our forbears fought and died for this country TWICE. What Jefferson and Lincoln hath joined let no Tlaib or Schiff put asunder. Building a country—TWICE—is hard, wrecking it is easy. So easy, even Madeleine Dean can do it. But we won’t let her.
The thing that's maddening is that I think the Congresswoman might actually believe what she's saying. In other words, she's never bothered to find out the facts, ever.
When there is someone on FB who richly deserves to be ticked off, that is exactly what I do. Most of the time they don't even know what the word "citation" means. Fun times.
Bessent is a gift, saying "One believes President Biden," given with the slightest of smirks, almost imperceptible. Because he's clueless, Meeks doesn't get it, and goes down the exact wrong path. The same blindness to reality is the same reason the left can't meme.
The anger over any and everything (real and imagined) they are constantly expressing is exhausting. I can't help but imagine that even if they are just playing angry, that it isn't taking a toll on them. About a year ago Chris posted about going camping and enjoying life that made me realize that being constantly pissed off at the lunacy in the world was sucking the life out of me. Believe it or not, a line from Animal House by Dean Wormer was a reminder for me to reset. To paraphrase perhaps my favorite quote of all time "Fat, Angry and Stupid is no way to go through life son". I decided the least I could do was ditch the angry part.
Flippin' Jersey— I think you're right. All the same, the folks of this political stripe really do work themselves into an absolute lather over all & anything to do with the BOM (bad orange man). It's a sight to see. I see it in my world just about every day. Outrage! Outrage! Outrage! They are so angry, so afraid, why they could just hyperventilate their way to Canada. (lol Canada can have them if you ask me.)
Unfortunately., I know too many of those constituents who stupidly believe their performances and rarely look at the actual facts. So whether or not those performing believe the lies other people do

I just read that the new Jenn Psaki show on
“MSDNC” has tanked and overall is continuing to bleeding viewers.

Yes she was insufferable. Most of America appears to agree with you on that. 😁

They started as draft riots but quickly morphed into race riots.
Isn’t that the truth!

Generation Jones. My wife and I are in that cadre.
Adults should completely ignore what Leftists say but pay a lot of attention to what they do.
Yep, perfect.
Did you secretly crawl into my brain?
You hit in a long paragraph what a PhD candidate wouldn't likely be able to, or honest enough, articulate in a thesis.
I appreciate that!

Regarding J6 I found this Xitter thread to be illuminating - https://xcancel.com/DataRepublican/status/1919895711094866213
It all starts to make sense when "our democracy" is actually "their democracy".
They say “democracy” because its too much to say “our claim on taxpayer money.”
Republic. Constitutional Republic.
The "our" is the word that matters.
The "Not yours" is silent.
There also was just a riot at the University of Washington that did $1-million+ in damages to university property. News, of course, describes it as a mere "protest."
Maybe the cost of property damage by students could be tacked on to their student loans - and their interest rates increased - until the nonsense stops.
First they need to do time and be kicked out of university. Assuming they are actual students which some of the Seallte lot weren't - one was a Public Defender apparently. See https://hotair.com/tree-hugging-sister/2025/05/07/the-university-of-washington-and-city-of-seattle-are-a-third-world-dumpster-fire-n3802530
"Nonsense" doesn't quite adequately describe their horrendous actions.

If politics is truly Hollywood for ugly people, we are in the Oscars season.
Some real gems in this one!! Dangler!! They are a group of danglers that I wish I could scrape off!!
That line made me laugh.
I’m sick of performative outrage. I know a lot of people who are getting off social media for good because they’re tired of basically everything.
Dangers, dingo balls, drag queens & dipshits aplenty.
If those students were serious, they’d use the library to study for finals. Then, at the end of the term, they’d buy a ticket, fly to Gaza and protest and riot over there. But they aren’t serious. It’s the equivalent of playing dress-up with mommy and daddy’s clothes and makeup.

As Mordecai Richler said when he was questioned by the RCMP for attending Communist party meetings as a young man: I only went for the girls.
It's a cry for psychiatric help. Make asylums great again.
You can kinda see why burning witches was so popular at one time.
Today, we’re coddling our witches.
lolol
To respond to the title, yes it’s time for a National Divorce. Maybe also swap three or four states for Alberta.
Blue York and Californica need to go for sure. probably Oregon too, and I know there's more high population overrepresented BlueNoMatterWho™ strongholds that should be off in their own democratic-socialist "paradise" of a country
It's very disheartening, as Colorado & Washington are also being destroyed. Such beautiful states that these leftists don't deserve to live in.
Careful though, Calgary and Edmonton are to Alberta as Dallas and Austin are to Texas. Would have to ensure more parity with the rural regions first.

The facts are inconvenient. Also irrelevant.
“ If you’re watching a dog drag his ass across the lawn to scrape off a danglerr, you’re watching something more important than a committee hearing.”
Chris, my dog thanks you for speaking up for him wiping his ass on the lawn. I will forever appreciate that just a little more thanks to you.
For the last few years, I have to go into some kind of Zen no-mind state to eat my corn flakes.
Just don’t read the box!
the box isn't even required to list the BT toxin produced by the GMO Monsanto-Bayer corn that's mixed with cardboard (cellulose) to make said flakes.
what they do list is bad enough, even if you have to scan a QR code on the label to see that the product is GMO
^^Like!^^
"If you’re watching a dog drag his ass across the lawn to scrape off a dangler"
<Slow clap> It's like a second coming of Shakespeare. That's beautiful, man.
Agree. The very Brevity of Wit.
You forgot the constant unsubstantiated and hyperbolic ad hominem attacks. You can trigger them just by asking for a source with a name.

Gave up social media for Lent this year. Life was better. Spending less time there now and happier for that.
Guaranteed it’s fake. They know it, the subject knows it, and they all play the game.
