California Senator Shannon Grove, a Republican, has introduced legislation that would make it a felony for an adult to solicit a child for sex. Yes, you read that sentence correctly. Only in California do we get news headlines like this:
Offer one sixth-grader’s pimp fifty bucks for a blowjob from the kid and these people get all punitive about it, right? The bill, SB 1414, is scheduled for its first committee hearing on Tuesday, when the Senate Public Safety Committee will take it up. Take a look at who sits on that committee, because dark LOL:
So yes, the first person who gets a crack at a bill against the sexual exploitation of children is the senator who boasts, with great pride, that California is a state where your 12 year-old lover can get abortions, birth control, and STD medications without mommy and daddy finding out.
Should go well. Wiener, by the way, was the author of SB 357, which eliminated the crime of loitering with intent to commit prostitution. Since it’s no longer a crime to just stand around in the streets trying to sell sex, California is experiencing a curious and totally surprising increase in street prostitution, with opponents of the law arguing that “nearly 60% of trafficking victims are foster youth or have resided in group homes, per federal data.” A remarkable number of Scott Wiener’s legislative efforts have the effect of sexualizing childhood, but I’m sure that’s just an accident.
With regard to Grove’s effort to make child solicitation a felony, note that California legislators have been trying to do this for years. Their previous bills have all been carefully steered into the wall in the Democratic-supermajority legislature.
Prior Legislation:
SB 1414

AB 1173 (Rubio), failed passage Assem. Public Safety Comm., 2021
AB 892 (Choi), failed passage Assem. Public Safety Comm., 2021

SB 303 (Morrell), held in Sen. Public Safety Comm., 2017
SB 982 (Huff), held in Sen. Approps., 2014
You can find that list of earlier attempts in the committee analysis:
That same report will give you a discussion of the groups that have expressed opposition to the bill, and you can read their remarkable arguments. The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights is, of course, among the opponents, led by a board that includes a 6th-grade teacher. The Ella Baker Center also opposed Grove’s legislation to classify the sex trafficking of children as a serious felony last year, and Democrats killed that bill in committee until even journalists noticed that they were protecting the sexual trafficking of children — at which point party leaders forced Democratic legislators to hold their noses and allow the thing to pass. Again, real headline:
Legislators haven’t weighed in yet on Grove’s new bill, so the committee hearing on Tuesday will be our first chance to see how the Democratic legislative majority will respond to it. It should be…interesting.
I would ask Shannon Grove about her bill, but she only talks to credentialed press.
Republicans in a Democratic-supermajority state think it’s best to only talk to journalists from the corporate outlets, carefully avoiding alternative media. Doing great, everybody. I’m sure the Sacramento Bee will give your ideas a fair audience.
"credentialed journalist" is a misnomer. An oxymoron. Ms Grove is either willfully blind, incurably ignorant, or drunk to believe such a creature exists...OH, LOOK AT ME, I READ CREDIBLE...not credentialed.
One of the only reason's most people go to substack and read people like Chris is
1. He may have a PhD (usually a disqualified of seeing truth out of hand), but at least it in history--and I'm doubtful he had a journo undergrad.
2. He is NOT credentialed.
Scott Wiener, in any sane/honorable society, would have been 'taken care of' by the men of the neighborhood.
Citizen 'Hmmm. I don't know. He must have slipped on the ice.'
Police 'uh, it is SF in July, what ice?'
Citizen 'Hey man, the dude slipped, smashed his face and shattered his teeth...'
Police 'Roger.'

How can the sponsoring senator not talk to independent journalists when the MSM will undoubtedly help to bury and/or kill her sensible bill? What planet does she live on?
