Or to ask the question this way, what happens between 2nd Street and 4th Street, between the peace and order of Little Tokyo and the degradation of Skid Row? How is that radical a culture change possible in so little space?
Respect and empathy and kindness in their culture… this skid row culture is what happens when enabling and accepting destructive behavior is allowed without consequence. It’s leadership’s fault and the buck should stop there but the people keep voting this Assholery in .
Dammit, I don’t know how you did it, but today’s piece actually made failure sound kind of poetic. I don’t know if that’s good or bad 😉.
Japan. Probably the least diverse, most xenophobic culture on earth; also one of the lowest crime rates. Now that Hollyrot can’t make movies about the groups that *actually* commit the most crimes (Verboten: black criminals; Arab terrorists. Woke Substitutes: Albanian criminals; Russian terrorists)— are you ready for this — Yakuza are being used as a politically correct substitute.
Not to change the subject because it IS very much related.
Japan does not require that you vaccinate until after age 2 or 3. The U.S. starts injecting aluminum into babies on Day one of life based on a 5 day study.
There are certain ethnic groups more susceptible to vaccine injury (black, Native American, some Hispanic groups ). Japan has little of these groups AND eats fermented and Whole Foods that support brain health.
Vaccine injury is complicated to explain and understand but when you look at Skid Row, you are looking at vaccine injury.
Weeeeeeeell, vaccines are completely unnecessary, so there's that. If you don't realise this it's because you are not doing your own research outside of controlled narrative spaces. The origins of the vaccine industry and virology as a whole are NOT what you are trustingly imagining them to be. The history of polio and measles is NOT what you've been told. Unvaccinated kids are the healthiest kids- until you look into this, you will never know. Stop believing what you are told. Most people you believe to be experts are regurgitators at best. You MUST research for yourself- there is no shortcut to truth.
I have a brother who spent about five years living in Osaka, Japan teaching English to Japanese business people. He told me that after several months saving money he purchased a high-end camera and took the bus somewhere so he could try out the camera. He fell asleep on the bus ride home and left the camera on the bus. He was sure it was gone, but went the next morning to the main depot to see if it had been turned in to a lost & found.
He showed his bus ticket and was taken to the exact bus he had ridden. There was his camera - untouched. The Japanese just do not take things that they know are not theirs, regardless if they are unattended.
Little children routinely take the train system(s) to get to and from schools. They all travel with their friends unattended by direct adult supervision
I was stationed in Japan for three years and my wife's mom was Japanese. I really like Japan and the Japanese people. Having said that, I have to say that Japan has a bizarre culture. Yes, if you leave your camera or computer on the train, it will probably be fine. If you let your 15 year old daughter ride the train alone, there's a high likelihood she'll fall victim to “chikan” groping. About 56% of women in Tokyo (and about 15% of men!) have been groped on public transportation. It's a bizarre phenomenon for an otherwise polite and law-abiding society.
A couple of weeks ago, as I was boarding the train, I realized while I was wearing my prescription sunglasses that I left my regular prescription glasses in a case on the bench. My eyes are incredibly bad, so this was a crisis. It took about 20 minutes to get off at the next stop and take the next train back. And my glasses — high-index trifocals with corrections for astigmatism, really no good for anyone but me — were gone. At this point, you’re stealing just to keep in practice.
Always fun to watch German housewives sweeping their front door paths every day. Some German Proverbs:
„Jeder ist seines Glückes Schmied." (Everyone is the blacksmith of their own fortune) Emphasizing personal responsibility and the impact of one’s choices on their destiny.
„Morgenstund hat Gold im Mund.“ (Morning hour has gold in its mouth.)
Encouraging an early start as it often leads to success or productivity.
„Der frühe Vogel fängt den Wurm.“ (The early bird catches the worm.)
Advocating for the benefits of prompt action and early initiative.
Microcultures can preserve their values even when those around them are purposely corrupted and disintegrated. Devout Christians still forego YOLO values to marry young and raise families. Recent immigrant communities often maintain the cultural norms of their homeland, sometimes for good, sometimes wreaking havoc. This is why our immigration policies need to be discriminatory. Discrimination and tolerance are two of the most damaging inversions foisted upon our American culture. Discrimination is a cultural defense, whereas tolerance is corrosive to culture.
Possibly for the same reason Gypsy beggars from Romania here in Sweden never sit in front of Arab or Pakistani-owned stores, only in front of Swedish-owned ones.
I had a discussion with a friend, a real Japanophile who spent much time in the country. We were discussing self-driving taxis. We decided it would work better in Japan because you know your taxi would arrive neat and clean. In the US, guaranteed, your taxi will have been trashed by the last passenger, who thinks cleaning up is for other people.
Chris. In my blue enclave in a blue state, the only small businesses that have survived have been there for for at least 10 years, and they own the building.
Starting 10+ years ago means they got a head start.
Owning the property means they are invested but most important of all, can cover costs. They may not be very profitable, vastly less than a decade ago, but with enough fugality are immortal. They may not go out of business the first month they cannot cover costs, but they will stop sweeping.
Failure is a choice. Success is a choice. Its that simple. People who choose success often find like-minded people and create their own beautiful microculture admist the ruin. They accept they cannot change anything on a grand scale, so they choose the wins where they can get them As to why so many people tolerate this crap, idk. Anyone have insight there, id love to hear it. Im at a loss. I've moved states, changed jobs, changed school districts and maintained a select friend group to avoid this nonsense.
Chris, I was near Echo Park today and stopped at Echo Park lake to walk around. It is an oasis in the middle of an otherwise marginal neighborhood near the 101 Freeway. There were people on the sidewalk with canopies selling shit no one wanted, but it was pretty nice for LA. I was reminded that not too long ago, Echo Park was a homeless hellhole, thanks to the councilman who represented the area. Somehow, the city grew some balls, fenced off the park, kicked all the homeless out, and have maintained it ever since. The point is, LA could clean itself up and not just rely on the brave citizens if the city wanted to. It just doesn’t seem to want to.
In one year we just deported a large number of illegals but only a small percentage of them, and the murder rate dropped 20% to its lowest number since 1900, and ……………. it’s not a story. Crickets.
I know why it’s not a story, but I’m still flabbergasted it’s not a story.
After this last year, I really want to know just what the actual f*ck were the other presidents doing?
The next time one of these useless presidents is asked a question, can someone please ask them why they didn’t lower the murder rate? Also, where are the Clinton, Bush, Obama and Biden accounts for children?
It's not democrat vs republican, we are all one people, and those are two wings of the same captured government vulture terrorizing us and picking us clean. There are only liberal vs independent vs conservative values. Here is those liberal values in action (liberals are victims who've been lead down into a very black dungeon - they've been brainwashed by advanced political psychological warfare and manipulation - and we've got to find a way to get them back to reality or we will all be divided and conquered without them firing a shot - we will end up shooting one another for them):
Here is an impassioned blistering plea about democrat compassion from a legal immigrant:
Not long after I came to America, I was exposed to the narrative that the Democrat Party was the party of the little guy and the only party with genuine care and compassion for the average American. Fortunately, because I grew up under a dictatorship, I could not be easily fooled by socioeconomic shackles masquerading as compassionate public policy. The truth is there is no compassion like Democrat compassion. It is the kind of compassion that lets people shoot illicit drugs into their body with the government's assistance. It is the kind of compassion that sees assisted suicide as a moral virtue. Democrat compassion is the kind of compassion that lets you rob the innocent in hardworking businesses in your neighborhood and walk out with impunity with no fear of prosecution.
Democrat compassion is the kind of compassion that tells vulnerable women it is their right to abort and sacrifice their unborn children on the perverted altar of female empowerment and convenience. Democrat compassion is the kind of compassion that tells children they were born in the wrong body and encourages and subsidizes their mutilation. Democrat compassion is the kind of compassion that lets boys unfairly compete against girls and take their records, their opportunities, and their scholarships, and invade their private spaces turning back decades of hard-fought gains.
Democrat compassion is the kind of compassion that allows homeless people to defecate on sidewalks and sleep in tents in public parks while watching them as they abuse drugs and suffer through mental illness.
Democrat compassion is the kind of compassion that tells independent contractors that they don't have the right to choose how and when they work, in the name of protecting them from big bad corporations.
It is the kind of compassion that raises the minimum wage by government fiat and takes the earnings of fast food workers from $15 an hour to zero in a single day.
Democrat compassion is a kind of compassion that restricts the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, leaving them vulnerable to the criminals their compassion let out of prison with their no-bail policies.
Democrat compassion is the kind that secures the borders of Ukraine and leaves the American border wide open, allowing un-vetted illegal immigrants to wreak havoc on small towns and big cities alike and allowing drug cartels to kill 100,000 Americans each year with the poison of fentanyl.
This compassion is the kind of compassion that forces millions of Americans to close their businesses and to take experimental vaccines under the threat of losing their jobs and their livelihood.
It is the kind of compassion that praises Antifa as freedom fighters and raids the homes of pastors and churchgoers at dawn because they protested at the doors of abortion clinics.
Democrat compassion is the kind that weaponizes the justice system against political opponents while claiming to be defenders of democracy.
Democrat compassion is the kind of compassion that colludes with social media companies to censor Americans and limit their constitutional freedoms.
Democrat compassion is the kind that tells minorities they cannot succeed without government handouts and without having the standards lowered for them.
It is the kind of compassion that tells black people they're too dumb to obtain IDs to vote but if they manage to do that they're not black if they don't vote Democrat.
I think America has had it with Democrat compassion. It has destroyed one's beautiful cities, left poverty and economic devastation in its wake everywhere it's been applied, and created a generation of voters so bereft of critical thinking skills that they so easily fall prey to a profound level of cunning and cynicism that enables them to vote 'blue no matter who' against their own interests.
Thing is, "Democrats" didn't used to be like this where I grew up. "Progressives" were originally populist republicans (both small and capital R).
Where I grew up, everything you said about "Democrats" applied to "Republicans." It's why my mom served three terms (elected) as an election watcher/inspector. She was so good at it that when filing her paperwork for a fourth term as requested by everyone in our ward who had watched her clean up our polling places of GOP corruption, she got to the courthouse to learn that, in secret, the GOP had changed the filing deadline for intent-to-run paperwork. So she was unable to run, they got their guy in, and everything went back to how it was.
I will never forget how anxious every election day was. Wondering what conflict Mom would find herself in the middle of. It was a tough riverfront and port town, one of the toughest. People who bucked the local powers turned up in rivers and swamps--stuff like that.
Everything you said about "Democrats" I could give you examples of from the "Republicans" who corrupted my fathers' Republican party (the Little White Schoolhouse In Ripon Republicans, the Bob LaFollette Republicans who struggled to keep the US out of World War "One") into something that served the central banks/City of London and their war industries on the riverfront. Perpetually ginning up Permawar so that the likes of Winston Churchill could genocide Germans by the millions, and his propagandist handlers on Fleet Street could hand down BS memes that, going on 100 years later, people are still eructating like buffoons.
Right, it’s all a manipulation, as said in the outset, there is no Republican vs Democrat, those are brands people hook their self-worth up to like a team sport. Your mom is a hero.
That is a pure microcosm of the state of the nation. You are either making a mess, or like most Americans, cleaning up someone else's.
The mess-makers, led by the Congress, are continually pulling farther ahead. In the meantime, the mess-cleaners are forced to pay for the mess they are trying to clean up.
Tax strike. [I know "you go first"] But I'll keep saying it until it catches on. I did the math on the Minnesota Fraud (to date): $2500/each. $9 billion divided by 3.7 million voters. Services paid for, not rendered.
Those people fight the degradation because they had parents that loved them and taught them right from wrong. While Demtoid cities struggle the rest of America knows right from wrong.
Decent people do decent things, sleazy people do sleazy things,,the governor and his ilk accept and love that they get federal money in the name of helping the homeless..Otherwise they would work another scam..california is the most homeless people.
Why do they fight the degradation?...in a word...Hope
Hope can be a very pernicious and infectious thing among likeminded persons, but it can also become an illusion, a pleasant fiction to ease the internal voices of angst and dread.
To quote Anne Frank-"Where there's hope, there's life"
Well, where else are they going to go? It's easy to talk about abandoning a place and moving someplace saner but when you have roots, a family, a business, a job, or a home, it's extremely difficult. Especially when the entire West Coast is a Democrat uni-party hellscape. Most people don't have the financial independence to execute a long distance move. So people just hunker down and cope.
Ordinary folks are becoming serfs - tied to their locale and with no say in how they're governed and taxed.
Today, Substacker Arthur in California posted a link to an amazing interview of Oklahoma's GOP governor, Kevin Stitt, in an NPR interview opining that the wonderful thing about the US is our states' rights, so that if people don't like "the melting pot" and what it's doing to their state, they can just pack up and leave.
He is apparently "Cherokee," and does not, to anyone's knowledge, support the rights of anybody and their family to move onto the rez, with the assertion that "if you don't like it, you can leave."
"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." ~ Calvin Coolidge
Most of my life I've thought of Sisyphus as a horror story. It wasn't until I heard Jordan Peterson describe it as, "Well, at least Sisyphus has something to do each day..."
True wisdom. I think the people who continue to push back against the decline, the manufactured decline, do it because we are happier under load. We need meaningful work to do, and maintenance can be quite meaningful. It is an act of responsibility, and when we can ignore our constant dopamine addiction, responsible actions are intrinsically rewarding.
We need something on which to push back. Always. As iron sharpens iron...we need to have opposition for the very best of us to become activated, epigenetic 'turning on' the best of us.
Chris, that picture of Little Tokyo reflects exactly the cleanliness of the streets in Japan, a joy for us to visit from horribly dirty Britain. We were about to take a photo on the Nihombashi Bridge in Tokyo when a young Japanese man stepped in front of us to remove from the ground a speck of litter which would have spoiled our picture. It doesn’t surprise me at all that LA’s version of Little Tokyo is spick and span.
But we know the answer: Because there is nothing else they can do. The institutions they pay for with a large portion of their labor have sold them out. The politicians and bureaucrats thanklessly take, with a vague threat of force, seeking to enrich and empower themselves, dancing along the line between scandal, corruption, and re-election.
Productive people, the producers in life, will put up with a ton of semi-distant leeching. And in the end, they rely on themselves. They toil against the negative efforts of those who should be helping them, but instead hurt them.
Or to ask the question this way, what happens between 2nd Street and 4th Street, between the peace and order of Little Tokyo and the degradation of Skid Row? How is that radical a culture change possible in so little space?
I'm sure there's a great Japanese proverb about this. If you ever visit Tokyo, you will be radicalized and may never return.

Respect and empathy and kindness in their culture… this skid row culture is what happens when enabling and accepting destructive behavior is allowed without consequence. It’s leadership’s fault and the buck should stop there but the people keep voting this Assholery in .
That's not true. Elections are rigged. How could that be more obvious?
Dammit, I don’t know how you did it, but today’s piece actually made failure sound kind of poetic. I don’t know if that’s good or bad 😉.

Yes.
Here’s the proverb: keep Japan Japanese.
Tokyo is amazing as is all of Japan
Kyoto is exceptional beauty
Not to change the subject because it IS very much related.
Japan does not require that you vaccinate until after age 2 or 3. The U.S. starts injecting aluminum into babies on Day one of life based on a 5 day study.
There are certain ethnic groups more susceptible to vaccine injury (black, Native American, some Hispanic groups ). Japan has little of these groups AND eats fermented and Whole Foods that support brain health.

childhood vax schedule creates a mentally ill generation (AWFULs prominent among them)
mentally ill are driven to self-medicate with readily available fentanyl and god knows what else
shantytowns grow
citizens beg for government intervention
problem, reaction, solution
Sadly, well said
Weeeeeeeell, vaccines are completely unnecessary, so there's that.
The entire country, soup-to-nuts, is this way.

Japanese people care and respect others
The community protects the innocent ones
Japanese culture is amazing
It is called a "High trust culture" which is truly exotic and even perplexing for us in diverse, low trust north America. I spent 15 years there.
Some of us are old enough to remember when a lot of America was like that. It certainly was in the small Midwestern town where I grew up.

How were the Germans made into our enemies?

You just stated my exact thoughts. I thank you.
Only successful (not just financial) people will admit they are self-made.
That's why.

I don’t know much about LA, but maybe they do it because, goddammit, it’s their city too. Because they’re civilized.

The deep state is apparently bottomless, and the swamp is still infested with snakes, gators, and, worst of all, congressmen.
Agreed. It was big cutting so many federal employees, but more need to go. They are the foot soldiers of the deep state.
Right now the deep state wants to wait Trump out, so now is the time to be on the offensive against them.
I'm beginning to think jail is too good for the people who foisted this ruin upon us.
Sadly, even jailing them seems to be more than we can expect.
Didn’t Greg Stillson Newsom do this to San Fran in less than a week when China sent emissaries to the city?
I totally get the reference, and it’s apt. California is definitely a Dead Zone.

God bless the orderkeepers and the helpers. Humbly pursuing order, decency, cleanliness, service, and kindness every single day.
Amen. 🙏
“What can men do against such reckless hate?”
“Ride out with me. Ride out and SWEEP them.”
Need Aragorn and theoden to at least try
Why do they fight the degradation?...in a word...Hope
Hope can be a very pernicious and infectious thing among likeminded persons, but it can also become an illusion, a pleasant fiction to ease the internal voices of angst and dread.
To quote Anne Frank-"Where there's hope, there's life"
Or, as when the Three Stooges had done something illegal, the cop said, "You'll get life for this!"
I think it was Curly that responded, "That's all right, where there's life, there's hope!"
Love this! I don’t resist, I persist!
One of our greatest presidents, and most sadly forgotten.

Ironic that homeless have their tents and tarps strung up on the fence of the Ron Beasley Wellness Center.
Which is run by "The People Concern," the sign behind the fence.
Was the sign written by a student from “The Learing Centre”?
Hmmm but "concerned" about what exactly.....
"Concerned" that those living on their sidewalk will breach their fence.
Exactly!
Not "concerned" about the jarring architectural mishmosh of DYI fencing styles behind the "peoples" tents.
Ugh. Eyeroll.
For those of us who do not know, who was Ron Beasley? Is there some special irony in the fact that his name is on that building?
Harry Potter's friend?
That’s weasely
I don't know who Ron Beasley is/was, but The People Concern has lost their plot. This article is from March 2022. https://www.foxla.com/news/skid-row-wellness-facility-looks-to-bring-mental-health-services-to-heart-of-homeless-crisis
You should ask them.
