Thinking about Alex Gutentag's piece at Public in the context of Laura Dodsworth's "State of Fear," about the UK government's deliberate manipulation of anxiety during the pandemic. How does all of this fit together, over time? What does the pandemic look like without the post-9/11 security state? The ratcheting effect of emergency after emergency after emergency....

Yup. The ratchet only goes one way and the handle gets longer with every turn.

Next time you're waiting in line at the airport ask someone under 40 if they know why they're being barked at to take their shoes off so they can be BIOSCANNED.

I do it every time. Blank stare.

I still call them naked body scanners and I have never nor will I ever walk through one. If everyone in the line refused, they would be long gone. But barely anyone refused, so here we are twenty years later. Americans showed they would tolerate anything in the name of safety. We were pre-conditioned for covid safetyism.

I was in Greece during the economic crisis of 2015. The party in power at that time were Obama acolytes, the Radical Left party. Even as Greece teetered on the verge of default, nearly each day the Finance Minister at that time did the opposite of what would be necessary avert a financial crisis. This went on all summer and I at least felt it was calculated to bring on a collective PTSD for a repeatedly stunned, psychologically brutalized population. (They had already had their pensions slashed.) They defaulted for no sane reason although lenders tried desperately to make a deal. The country lost 100 billion Euro. Their rhetoric brought the population to the point of the majority voting in a referendum to exit the Euro, which would have turned Greece into Venezuela. Only some sane foreign high positioned authorities (like maybe a Treasury Sec) stopped that total off-a-cliff shipwreck from happening. Of course Paul Krugman still thinks it would have been a good idea.

When I see this repeated trauma technique which seems calculated to bring on a collective PTSD to the population happening here, I am convinced it's deliberate for the psychological effects of a stunned population. Think repeated impeachments that made a lot of scare but went nowhere, based on what people knew was non-evidence. Think Vindman. (For that matter, think of the insanity of a war that went nowhere but into destruction with no discernible analyzed Game End point.) Think J6 treatment contrasted with BLM riots approach. Think of bringing a never-before heard use of the Constitution to attempt to get the most popular candidate off states' ballots. Think of seeking to eliminate the electoral college. And so it continues on *us.*

Our problem is that these people must actually believe in the rightness of what they're pushing.

It's just a measure of their own blindness that they think their only problem is *us.*

The 9/11 security state is the WW2/Cold War Security state Chris. It starts in 1940.

Mind you, Bush had to give Speaker Hastert everything he wanted, which included a lot of the expansion, TSA for Dems etc.

The war was over by 2003. All of it except CT, which are a small number of elite forces and Intel.

But we had to have a huge drama and jobs program, so...

They just want more, so more government, more contracts, more contractors.

They’ll be just as successful as they were in Iraq and Afghanistan because they know just as much about Americans as they do Arabs and Pashtuns. The managerial elite is only good at convincing themselves that they are taken seriously. No one else is buying what they’re selling. I’ve been writing for the past few days about how astroturfed liberal Substack is, accounts with multiple thousands of followers and hundreds of paid subscribers that barely break double digits in engagement. Their efforts only invite ridicule now, which is why they’ve turned to open hostility. That won’t work either. They don’t understand the peoples of Iraq, Afghanistan, or America very well, but the group they have the least awareness of is themselves.

With control of that and CNN we will have full spectrum media domination. And obviously, that will take a max two weeks before Putin flees the Kremlin and Russians jump on board with a financialized economy and regendering their kids.”

Normally I would agree, but the Nation cannot afford the reduction in military force that the deserved bloodletting would cause. Personally, I think Obama should be publicly hung for (1) the betrayal of the military’s oath to the Constitution and (2) forcing career military to choose between their family’s welfare and living factual truth. I do not know of a higher crime than forcing soldiers to lie in order to keep serving their country.

Do you really believe they think that far ahead? Look at Ukraine now. They only care about staying in power and eating at the trough and spending more to stay there.

Expand full comment

More directly to your points: if by “they” you mean the current team in the White House, you’re right, but I think there’s more to it. The Dems criticized Bush 43 for being too hard on the Russians and letting relations freeze over. Then under BHO & HRC, we had the flubbed “Reset.” Then Trump was elected, the Russians bought $100K of internet ads, and the Dems had an aneurysm about the Russians. Probably because the Russians never changed: from GWB to BHO/HRC and on to DJT, the Russians were the same – hard nosed pricks, and BHO/HRC were offended that their sheer overwhelming intellect did not melt the Russians’ hearts. Perhaps if they’d done the ONE THING the Russians cared about – designate Ukraine as a neutral country and not suitable for membership in NATO.

Instead HRC had Victoria Nuland at DoS press forward with the 2014 color revolution and overthrow Moscow’s guy in Kyiv.

The Dems (with an assist from the Reps) have provoked both Russian invasions of Ukraine. I think the flood of aid is a childish attempt to pretend we didn’t break it in the first place. The getting rich is just a bonus.

"You don’t tell people things that they believe — you tell them the things you want them to believe, intending to shape their attitudes and behaviors."

If the government of a nominal democracy attempts to influence how its citizens vote (by propaganda, the outlawing of a party or jailing of a candidate, by controlling the media and restricting private speech, etc.), then it is not a democracy in fact, but a covert, de facto, authoritarian government.

“I should not be, but i am astounded by how many field grade officers chose some variation of a "right wing insurgency" or "white Christian majority losing power" and the military implications thereof as a cent part of their warfighting thesis.”

In 2011, Obama initiated a purge of all general/flag and senior field grade officers who had been deemed insufficiently enthusiastic about DEI in interviews. They weren’t fired – they were advised that future assignments would be akin to Ensign Pulver’s as Laundry Officer.

Those who remain are either actual (insane) believers in this acidic hokum, or like millions of college students, they pump out what the organization expects to see, presumably in a mild dissociative state to prevent nausea.

The U.S. military will eventually need a Truth & Reconciliation Commission like South Africa’s in which officers publicly admit what they said & wrote, admit it was knowing lies, ask forgiveness and in return, receive absolution.

These people have their nuts in a Presidential vise, and the only way out as a society in a dangerous world is to redeem those who will be publicly honest about their roles.

He's even more morbidly obese than he has been - but I noticed that a while back as well. However his eyes are all blood shot - he lost a lot of his hair so he's on some kind of medicine and there's something wrong with his lips - looks like dehydration. Nonetheless he's maxed to the hilt on the clot shots and has asthma - I would look for cardiac arrest or a massive heart attack - I wonder if it'll happen on air like so many other clot shot advocates? Unfortunately I hail from the bowels of the USA a.k.a. as New Jersey and am very familiar with what he looks like! He'll probably drop out or drop dead before the primaries!
