I realize things like "media bias" are somewhat subjective, but when I saw that Tomasky said "the right-wing media has more power than the mainstream media", I really felt like we inhabited separate planets.
If we start with including culture (pop and otherwise) as part of "media", obviously Hollywood and pop music are all liberals/Dems, and their lockstep endorsements are the least of it—when was the last time you could sit through a movie, TV show (esp the late-night "comedians"), or even an ad and not be pummelled with left propaganda (mostly in re race & gender)? The last James Bond movie had a black woman literally parachuting into scenes to tell James that he was an antiquated white man who needed to die asap!
Then if you also include almost anything emanating from American academia—articles, books, interviews etc—how much of it is just regurgitation of the Party line and reminders that everyone not on their team needs to be plugged into Adorno's Fascist-O-Meter and prepped for re-education? Just about every prof quoted in any mainstream article speaks with one voice in support of the Dems and/or the Social Justice agenda in the most overheated, hectoring fashion. (And don't get me started on Nature, National Geographic and the embarrassingly woke Scientific American!)
And then we get to the actual MSM: the major networks and their biased weekend shows plus CNN MSNBC and then the print depts for the Propagation of the Faith: NYT, WaPo, NPR, AP, NYer etc, who all coordinate their messages so precisely that they even use identical language.
I'm gonna throw a Social Justice Party slogan right back in Mike's face: “When you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.” He and the rest of the liberal clerisy are so used to having total narrative dominance that even allowing other people to speak feels unfair and illegitimate to them. Liberals have locked themselves inside their custom ivory tower/safe space/rubber room for so long, they've simply lost the ability or vocabulary to debate opponents and defend their positions. Thus the endless performative tantrums...
They’ve banish or silenced everyone with the intellectual honesty and flexibility to counter anything without a the help of a chorus of screaming zombies drowning out the other side.
I think that you are missing one thing. Michael Tomasky appears to be either stunningly obtuse or willfully blind, either consciously peddling disingenuous drivel or cognitively limited.
But I think that he's in denial. Specifically, stage one of the Kubler-Ross five stages of grief. His career, income, identity, ego, social status, etc. is all tied up with a bunch of liberal policies which have objectively failed and been soundly rejected by the voters. It is literally too painful for him to consciously acknowledge it, so he's working through it subconsciously via the five stages.
Him and most of the Democrats, the pundits, the MSM, the NGOs and think tanks. I'm not looking forward to the next stage, anger, and stage four, depression, isn't going to be any fun either.
They are at least correct about the power of the mainstream media. The age of the average viewer is 65, and I don't know how that's calculated/if they are lumping everyone inna nursing home or waiting room to come up with that figure. The other thing I don't know is if there's ANY youtube or tiktok videos that the kids are watching that has the perfect racial component and morality tales that must be included for a show to get made, or if it's just gripping tales, however short. And I'm old enough I would really like Hollywood to just join them and make entertaining stories.
> I really felt like we inhabited separate planets.
I feel like Chris' virgin "breasts feel like bags of sand" analogy hits it even more squarely on the head. These people aren't living on different planets. They live on the same planet, but they don't seem to experience it.
Wait until the mass deportations start. Then they can be anti-nazis, hiding Anne Frank in their attic. They get to be the heroes in their own story. It's coming.
Hoping they invite Venezuelan gang members to hide in their attics! 😂 because they are just hungry and needing work and are absolutely nonviolent but benevolent!
There are millions of sympathetic illegals for them to focus on. By now, tens of thousands with anchor babies, so they are "saving American citizens!" Most people have no idea just how much damage these open borders have done.
Except that Anne Frank didn't murder anyone's wives or children while she was crouching in that attic. Nor did she receive free hotel accommodations, EBT cards, free medical care, free transportation and a free phone.
very few will fight the violent criminals being deported. That's a drop in the bucket. Wait til they start deporting the illegal women who already have one or two anchor baby citizens.
I don’t see that fight in Texas but it will definitely be all out war in California and likely NY. The illegals are Cali’s and NY’s plan for adding many more electoral votes.
the AWFLs are planning to produce, direct and star in a great grand drama where they perform their xenophilic love of the Other by preventing deportations.
they're putting people in camps! (on their way to the airport) it's just like Hitler! (except no one is murdered, just sent back home)
it's gonna be another Resistance sequel, just stupider
I'm actually somewhat concerned about the mass deportation stuff. Most voters want the border tightened up. But according to exit polls, 56% of voters want most illegals in the country to be offered a pathway to citizenship. 40% believe most should be deported, and that's a large number, but I'm pretty sure it will decline substantially when a photogenic Latino woman and her 2 kids feature as the "deportee of the day" every night on the CBS Evening News.
It's not that we shouldn't do it. But we should proceed carefully on this issue. There's lots of low-hanging fruit.
I don't think this is a hard trap to avoid; forcible deportation for the criminals, choke off the immigrant NGO industry and public assistance, and start jailing employers.
I agree. That would be the smartest and cheapest and likely least politically disruptive way. But that requires nuance, and let's face it, Donald Trump isn't known for nuance.
The women of child bearing age are the biggest long term threat. Deporting them all is non negotiable if we want any chance of preserving Western Culture.
William Kristol has said he definitely would find a place for a couple of illegals in his attic. Come on, you roguish lads who know how to do such things: as repellent as the idea of electronic surveillance is to us all, here's one jackass who does need to be "watched" to see if he keeps his word.
True story: California overwhelmingly passed a proposition that criminalizes theft again. The day after Election Day, one of my daughter’s professors said to the class, “They want to put people in jail who steal because they’re hungry.”
My daughter wanted to know what to say about this. I told her there’s nothing to say to a person like this. This person is mentally ill, and you can’t reason with a mentally ill person.
"How do you know why 'they' steal?" would be a good start.
"How is the grocery store owner or franchise holder recompensated for the loss of capital, revenue and investment that otherwise lost due to theft?"
"How much of your salary do you spend every month on buying food and distributing it to the homeless?"
Be aware, your daughter's professor is likely to see these as hate-speech and verbal assault, and may retaliate in some way, especially if the professor is female. Older women do not handle being put on the spot by younger women well at all.
I haven't been here much since the election, I was spending too much time splashing around in my brand new schadenfreude pool. It is great!! I told myself that I'd give myself 48 hours to revel in their pain, but (hot/cold empathy gap) I forgot how DELIGHTFUL it is to watch them 'suffer'.
Even the complaining is performative...but I do enjoy it.
In a group text with some of my fellow retired officers. We were all in the same unit for years together. 3 guys are lefties (a banker, an attorney, and govt cop) and three of us are right of center.
We used to poke at each other for years, but now that is not even fun. The responses from a two of my 'buddies' got very personal very quickly...like I cannot talk about govt corruption if I have a govt pension.
These guys are all bright, well at least one of them is, but intellect does not equal wisdom.
Oh, interesting weather note. I live near Tacoma, WA. It is overcast and rainy 200+ days a year. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday the sun was out! God was smiling on us--even though Washington State is the only state in the fbomb nation to have moved left when the rest of the country moved right. I have had to keep much of my joyful enthusiasm under wraps...
SW WA here. Moved north from blue Vancouver/Clark County to red Cowlitz County a couple years ago. Unfortunately, I ended up working in Vancouver, and often Portland. 🫤
I'll DM you the link to our event in Tacoma. First weekend in August. It is pretty damn cool if I must say so myself. If you're an athlete of any sort--would love your participation, if you're not--I think you'd be totally inspired just to watch the 100s of people laying it all out on the stairs at this high school stadium.
Gun Law” and he delivered the sad news about the incredibly bad choices Washington voters just made for state offices. I can’t recall if you remain there for family reasons or just love of the area, but your pain tolerance puts the rest of us to shame. Power on, sir!
It is flipping beautiful for sure, but my family-in law in here as well.
AND I want to grow my race to be the largest event in the area and increase our level of connection and community. I want to help create the most livable city in the nation via collective suffering--it is the pathway to agape and connection (same shit we did in the military, and why our friendships remain decades after the short duration of time we may have been together).
The whole Western world appears to be suffering from the same fundamental malaise. There is a rural/urban split.
Our cities are full of people who haven't a clue where their food comes from, why the lights come on when they flip the switch, or water flows when they turn a tap. Or where the sewage goes when they flush. And it is from those benighted urban bastions of ignorance that many, if not most, of our decisionmakers are drawn. The decisionmakers who are oh-so-certain they know what we should do, and how we should do it. And are very willing to tell us so. At length.
Inhabitants of rural regions, on the other hand, raise, process, and transport food. To those same cities. And mine the minerals, and harvest the timber to ship to the cities to build infrastructure. And keep the lights on, the taps running, and the sewage flowing downhill. And resent, like Hell, being told what, when, and how to do all of these things. By people who have no idea what it takes!
One wonders, in one's less optimistic moments, is there any way to bridge this chasm of ignorance?
I notice that trend everywhere. I live in Calgary, Alberta which thrives on oil&gas development and has been hammered economically by climate policy emanating from our current left wing federal government. Even here the closer you get to the urban center you find people actually supporting said government or swinging even futher left. The suburbs still lean Right, and of course, small centers away from the city are reliability right of center.
The government will simply order the grocery stores to “produce” food, as if they had a Star Trek TNG food replicator in the back. “There – problem solved.”
The parallels with “Atlas Shrugged” are just too great and growing.
The liberals’ screwup is that they acceded to the Marxists’ objectives and have gone after cultural institutions rather than sticking to economics. Even city dwellers know that women don’t have penises.
I mentioned elsewhere that I heard from a market analyst and two European scientists this week that the EU is on track to be unable to feed its own population within ten years. Not long ago, the EU was the #2 pork producer in the world. Climate legislation, anti-ag policies, and fundamentally unscientific decision-making have gotten them to a place where they will have to rely on imports, and it’s all a choice.
And here in WA state they want to take away our natural gas. We just went through a “cyclone bomb” wind storm that knocked out electricity for 5 days. Trees took out power lines. Our gas fireplaces, gas stovetops & gas generators made it tolerable. November 5 the people voted to keep their natural gas, but now a few well funded NGO’s will try & overturn the will of the people. It’s nuts. Btw, you should have seen the blocks long line up of Tesla’s waiting for power.
🤣🤣🤣 I’d still tap that. I mean he’s a little old for me but technically closer in age to me than Vance … thanks, Chris, now you’ve really depressed me. Was hoping for a cougar bit here.
Reddit is a remarkable barometer of the world, I clicked on a link celebrating Minnesota's unique nature in never electing a Republican. Many of the comments were lamenting how far left the Minnesota dfl has gone because of the inaction on homeless encampments crime and leftist accoutrement they infuse into everything. 100,000 somalis reside here and a substantial group came out in support of trump along with Hispanics which makes the Minnesota communist dfl base triggered which I find most excellent. Trevor Loudon somehow knows more about Minnesota politics than I and pointed to the Northeast triangle of the state consistently being blue which I had pondered as an oddity but being up there several times and seeing a preponderance of lesbian dog mushers I thought okay, he explained that actually the Scandinavian Communists after being driven out of Scandinavia 100 years ago settled up there.
Trevor points to Minnesota dfl infrastructure as being the most communist infused through the Paul wellstone institute in the country with every player deeply intertwined with DSA and the attorney general being a Muslim Brotherhood operative
I'm going to check to see if Trevor Loudon is here on substack

It's not just your media, the mainstream media in the UK has collectively lost its sh1t over Trump winning but again, they have no clue why. Bbc staff have compared his victory to the rise of the Nszi party in 30s Germany, internal messages have been leaked by a whistle-blower to gbnews. At this point our state broadcaster is a national embarrassment. The whining and bewilderment is everywhere. How dare the little people vote against the elites chosen candidate? How DARE they? Don't they know what's good for them? Sadly the msm manipulation worked in our election in July and we've a bunch of malevolent Marxist nutters in office. Thank god for Trump. Thank god.
Or a govt that coordinates multiple agencies and a judge to show up and toss your house for 5 hours at gun point to find a squirrel and a raccoon and summarily execute them.
They also imprison people for standing still near abortion clinics on the suspicion they’re silently praying. In Scotland, the police prioritize actual crimes of physical violence (response in hours) below investigating reports of “hate speech” (response in minutes).
If the UK declares war on the U.S. for the exportation of “critical theory,” DEI and the rest, it will be well deserved.
When a junkie was banging an axe into or front door when we lived in the inner city, the police took ca 45 minutes to respond. This in an area where there's always 1-2 patrol cars circling 24/7/365.
You could walk from the main police station to where we lived faster than that.
Same city where I was almost arrested for waving at my wife. The idiot cop thought I was standing on a street corner doing the "Roman salute".
We live in different worlds – in East Tennessee, someone attacking your house with a deadly weapon capable of penetrating it may be dispatched to the hereafter though the door. One need not wait for the assailant to gain entrance. The legal standard is “imminent threat of great bodily harm or death.”
As we live in the mountains and wild animals (including bears) routinely roam through our acreage in front of the house, I keep a .357 Magnum revolver on the table in the foyer. As we live 30 minutes from the sheriff’s office on town, it’s there for 2 legged animals as well.
Under our older self-defense laws (pre-1990s) we had what amounted to stand-your-ground, more or less. The attacked party was not under any compulsion to try and flee or evade if they were at home or pretty much anywhere indoors, or if a third party would be endangered.
It was a very straight-forward law, and the court would take all factors into account, including previous history of violence, crime, et c for either party.
A firearm however would have had to be kept in a locked security-locker, unloaded. But there was nothing preventing you from loading it and keeping it ready "just in case" if you suspected an intruder was about.
Now, you are supposed to leg it from your own home, if you can, and leave the vile scum free reign. There are men in prison right now, for having shot dead intruders who went for their families.
And the "feel" here in the woods is: "SGT". An abbreviation meaning "Shoot, dig, keep silent".
In Texas, where we lived for 30 yrs, pre-1995 there was a “duty to retreat” and carrying guns (other than for hunting) was illegal. In 1991 there was a mass shooting in a public cafeteria where 23 victims were killed and 27 wounded (link below). The adult daughter of husband & wife victims, became politically energized and successfully ran for state office on one issue: making Texas a “shall issue” state for concealed carry licenses. She worked relentlessly on the issue (the then Democrat governor vetoed 2 bills passed by the Legislature. In 1995, new Governor George W. Bush signed a 3rd bill into law. Liberals predicted streets overflowing with blood, while the reality was that illegal gun use (and other crimes) by licensees has been virtually nonexistent.
There is something perverse, no, obscene, about requiring law-abiding residents to flee their home to abide by the law. Swedish lawmakers must REALLY hate their constituents. They must think Swedes bear unimaginable societal guilt that can only be expiated by elevating the most violent criminals to a preferred position. It’s just sick.
Follow-up: Sweden has a vaunted history of military conquest and as a regional power for multiple centuries. Does Sweden currently have “broadsword control?”
Yeah, that online safety bill is really being put to the test.....but it's only if you post the wrong kind of memes. Mind you, we all know the Left can't meme so......But the biggest scandal is that pro Palestinian "protests" have been clogging up the streets of London for a year now, every weekend. Yet the farmers will not be allowed to protest on 19th November for "safety reasons". This is because you now need a permit to protest in the UK so only narrative acceptable protests are allowed. The farmers are protesting against the government so of course, nothing doing. Its a long story.
If it wasn’t for the documented mass murder, torture & other evils from the ‘30s & ‘40s, this election season would have made me start to wonder if Hitler had gotten a bad rap. This Hitlerism drumbeat manages to profoundly insult the true victims and survivors, AND make the proponents look utterly ignorant and delusional.
My idiot governor (Hair Hitler) is calling a special legislative session to “safeguard freedoms” and find a way to keep all the illegals in California. 🤦🏼♀️. And in other news, has anyone seen Gwen Walz screaming that they “won’t give up the fight”? Looney bin candidate. https://x.com/leslibless/status/1855018198250471651
So Mr Tomasky thinks rich liberals “are the only people in the world who have the power to do something about this state of affairs”…? Well, I’ve got news for Mr Tomasky, there are some 72 million not-so-rich non liberals who might disagree with his assessment.
My favorite part about this post-election period is these people are no longer frightening, just hilariously pathetic, the proverbial man behind the curtain.
I think the nicest thing about this election is that "shut up you imbecile" is now a perfectly acceptable response to people like David Frum.
We can, at this point, stop pretending that any further explanation is required. It simply does not matter if they do not understand, because it is not to our detriment.
This reminds me a lot of the stories that periodically arise in Africa, where someone is murdered because they used witchcraft to make the murderer's dick fall off or shrink to nothingness. And, as in those stories, there is a credulous audience.
I watched a few of the compilations of anti-Trumpers having tantrums. One talking head from some MSM News show said, "I think Americans may be losing faith in democracy". I laughed aloud. Then I wanted to jump through the screen and yell at him. 80 million Americans voted early, 44 million of them voted in person. Why? These people remembered 2020 when they were shut out of polling places, there weren't enough places, the PLUMBING broke, the POWER went out and all kinds of bullshit that STOLE their ability to vote. So this time they were gonna make damn sure they got their vote!
I saw that clip of Joe Scarborough saying of Trump supporters, "These people weren't at the schools we attended, the middle class schools. Where were they?"
INDEED! How shall WE put this delicately? THOSE people weren't at OUR schools, we MIDDLE CLASS people. Where could they have been? Those LOW CLASS people! EEWW! So BLUE COLLAR! Not the right sort, don't you know. They voted and ruined OUR democracy! Oh how could they be so hateful!? So... low class!
And who's sitting at the same table? Al Sharpton, race hustling petty con man dressing himself up as a black leader and a "reverend"! The guy that stoked up race hate in New York City with a straight up fraud and lie that NYC has never quite recovered from, especially since racist hustlers like him have traded on racism for 50 years. That's what IDENTITY is!
I realize things like "media bias" are somewhat subjective, but when I saw that Tomasky said "the right-wing media has more power than the mainstream media", I really felt like we inhabited separate planets.

Here here!
time for a peaceful separation if you ask me. “one nation” was an immensely bad idea.
Also, Dude, Venezuelan gang member is not the preferred nomenclature: Latinx community organizer, please.
Appreciate the correct nomenclature yet, back attcha, I am no dude.🤣😆
I know, but I had to stay within the acceptable canon of Lebowskian citations ;)
I was just saying tonight that I love it when someone calls a woman "Dude".
My daughter's focus sharpens when I call them dude, and they call their friends dudes, dude
There was no actual way you could possibly determine if I was a dude or not so it’s all good!
EK Mtn Time Good one
There are millions of sympathetic illegals for them to focus on. By now, tens of thousands with anchor babies, so they are "saving American citizens!" Most people have no idea just how much damage these open borders have done.

yeah i been hearing/thinking the same thing.
the AWFLs are planning to produce, direct and star in a great grand drama where they perform their xenophilic love of the Other by preventing deportations.

Ana "Navarro" Frank, probably.
I can just imagine her whiney voice going on about deporting abuelitas.
lol good one

Quite a few people are saying that those deportations are not going to happen.

Maybe ask them about the nutritional value of Louis Vitton? Just for kicks, though, since most are too far gone.
"How do you know why 'they' steal?" would be a good start.
"How is the grocery store owner or franchise holder recompensated for the loss of capital, revenue and investment that otherwise lost due to theft?"
"How much of your salary do you spend every month on buying food and distributing it to the homeless?"

Rikard, those are excellent rebuttals. I’m going to pass them along.
Must be a fan of Les Míserables.
Yes, exactly! There’s a bunch of Jean Valjean’s in California stealing bread, instead of organized theft gangs. I was so wrong!

If Cali can move right, we can as well.
Have a great weekend John!

Just to clarify something, your “race” refers to a foot race up 1,628 stadium steps in Tacoma to benefit a local animal rescue?
Yes Sir!
Same here. 👍
And WA ( really King County) voters voted themselves a 30% tax increase along with promoting the worst AG in the country to Governor.
They didn’t. The elections there are totally rigged.
Probably
Just awful.

The people who do for a living will exit, leaving only those who do not. Eventually the large cities will either learn or collapse.
Boom. Nailed it.
Where Are My Handmaids ?
I voted for you!
I’m hoping either Emperor Vance or Elon Musk shows up to my house to *ahem* PERSONALLY fit me for my handmaiden’s uniform. #threesome 😳🥰
Careful, you're gonna summon Vance and get Trump. "You called?"
🤣🤣🤣 I’d still tap that. I mean he’s a little old for me but technically closer in age to me than Vance … thanks, Chris, now you’ve really depressed me. Was hoping for a cougar bit here.
Austin Powers: “Oh, behave!”
He does “weave” I hear
I like the cut of your jib!
Hahahaha❤️
They're over at reddit. Dreading their handmaid's uniform fittings.

Thank god.
Amazing that your country is jailing people for posting memes.
And there are many who believe this is a good idea
And they call other people fascists.
It's not just Scotland.

No doubt some idiot somewhere will be calling for his "rehabilitation" soon....😬
“Hair Hitler” I love it! (the phrase. Not the person) And yes I too cringed to hear that our delusional AG is gearing up for the resistance.
Bonta is such a cuck.
Lord I wish that I had the ability to abandon this once amazing state. The buffoons in charge are increasingly malicious and inept. It's terribly sad.
“Hair Hitler “ is hilarious.
Thanks for that!
“They?!”
She’s pretty scary.
So Mr Tomasky thinks rich liberals “are the only people in the world who have the power to do something about this state of affairs”…? Well, I’ve got news for Mr Tomasky, there are some 72 million not-so-rich non liberals who might disagree with his assessment.
🎯
Well, since you mentioned "The Shining"... Red Frum???
HOW COULD I HAVE MISSED THAT ONE
Good one!
Even funnier when you know what the surname "Frum" means.
Thanks.
What does "Frum" mean?
Lmao! Nice work
What a delightful read. Parallel universes indeed. Thank you Chris Bray for helping me to extend my schadenfreude through the weekend.
If Tomasky would move to a small town in Nebraska he might begin to understand. And he could go on to live a useful life.
Weirdly, Michael Tomasky was born and raised in West Virginia. I don't know how he's managed to crawl so far up his own ass.
If the US works as here, the misfits from the countryside move to the big cities as soon as they can.
"might begin to understand"
Heavy on that "MIGHT"!
"he could go on to live a useful life"
Define useful. What skills does he have?
Manure forks fit any hand.
He would probably need remedial education.
A truer word...
Other than none...
Doubt he'd even make a useful footrest.
Doubtful if he could be useful in the classical meaning of the word.
