This tactic is technically assault and it’s the entire reason for stand your ground laws if your assailant is armed. The other issue is that you have a right to use deadly force in self defense if you “reasonably” feel your life is in danger and the assailant doesn’t actually have to be armed. More people are killed in fights than by guns. It’s my understanding that is technically the law, but try arguing that to a lefty prosecutor and see how far you get.
