One party rule sounds wonderful. What other countries take over a month to count the votes? California sounds more and more like China, which is also fond of mass abortions but doesn’t have all the drug and homeless issues.

I'm not ashamed to admit I threw my absentee ballot straight into the trash (not even recycling!).

What ails California goes way beyond voting, as everyone in government from the Gov to the local Assemblyperson to our Tech and Hollywood aristocrats have the same ideas, beliefs, policies and our fate here is as fixed as the Titanic's.

California in the 21st century embodies one of its oddest sui generis creations: the child star. Shielded from consequence by a bottomless pit of wealth, existing in a delusional state where there's no border between fantasy and reality, always able to solve every problem through a combination of PR agents and lawyers with large checkbooks, not just rich but rich, famous and beautiful.

Nothing is changing here (to continue and belabor my metaphor) till our show gets cancelled and there's some bankruptcies and a few embarrassing brushes w the law, which in our case means: till the money runs out.

Cali has an over $300 billion state budget! That is a lot of graft and spoils to spread around to keep the one-party state on cruise control. Wake me when the money gets tight, when politics becomes real instead of symbolic.

To add another viscous layer of irony, abortion has been codified into the California constitution, so abortion is always legal in California. Yet these vacuous fools running for office would have everyone believe abortion is somehow under threat in California. With all the problems in California that Chris described, I really am mystified why abortion is at the top of the Democrat’s priorities. Death seems to be their inspiration.

Expand full comment

you're right, i didn't even think of that.

for our legislators now (esp in a state like Cali with so much wealth and celebrity) being just a legislator seems demeaning and beneath them (even if that's what they're ostensibly campaigning for)—but winning a virtual battle in the eternal culture war, maybe going viral or getting on MSNBC and becoming one of your tribe's heroes du jour, is what they fantasize.

anyone can respond to constituents or fix potholes, but these people really imagine themselves

I did a little ballot harvesting at my house. My kids just turned 18 and each got a mail-in ballot. They both said they didn’t know what or who to vote for and didn’t want to bother. I told them to sign their names on the envelope and I would take care of the rest. This is how Steve Garvey got 33% of the vote for senator.

Expand full comment

Brian, I worked at the poles about a year ago to see what went on behind the scenes. When a voter drops off more than one ballot you are supposed to inspect the outside and have the vote dropper sign for it. But they don't do that. They have centralized all the voter roles in the state so any pol worker can see who voted everywhere. That's why it's taking a week to process. They are figuring out who to print new ballots for.

I'm surprised they didn't add the 'trans genocide' to some of the literature as well. Kill your babies in the womb--but if any escape, make sure to spay and neuter them!

The climate crisis is another anti-human, sacrificial religion to the God of Nature. Carbon, which we learned in high school chemistry, is the element of life (can bond with 4 other elements--here is where diversity is actually a strength) is now evil.

Here in the hellscape of Washington, our death cultists just passed HB 1589 which essentially outlaws natural gas. Of course. Why wouldn't they? Oh, and they are trying to destroy dams as well, because, well salmon salmon salmon salmon salmon. Make energy unaffordable for the lowly carbon makers so they die off, then we can Zoom all we want without their exhales ruining the planet.

I’ve been a proLife activist for a very long time now. As happy as I was at seeing Roe aborted, I knew it’s timing was more than mere coincidence.

I feel your pain, Chris, but I wish California would stop blazing a trail for the vile legislature here in Vermont to follow.

Vermont, being a small state with a small population and a small tax base, rushes headlong after anything that can be monetized; all that equity the state finances needs to be paid for somehow. Legalized pot, laws that make Vermont a destination state for transgender mutilation, creating a practically unlimited opportunity for abortions in the hope of drawing in 'pregnant people' from more restrictive states, and a whole host of other really bad ideas, are usually done with an eye to extracting as much money as possible through taxes and fees. This money is not used to make things better for Vermonters in general, it is directed to one or another woke program.

Sometimes, though, the ideas are also just plain evil. Because abortion is one of the most important sacraments in the new, woke, faith, the Vermont legislature passed, and Governor Scott (R) signed, SB37, which targets Crisis Pregnancy Centers, no doubt because they get in the way of unhindered child sacrifice. According to the Alliance Defending Freedom, now suing the state, "(the law) censors the centers’ ability to advertise their free services . . . it precludes centers from offering services, information, and counseling unless provided by a licensed health-care provider. . . the law is vague and explicitly targets pro-life pregnancy centers, applying only to facilities that do not perform or refer for abortions. It does not define what might violate the law and provides no guidance as to how that standard should be applied."

And the punishment for violating this law? Again the ADF: "if a pregnancy center were to advertise its services in a way Vermont’s pro-abortion attorney general says is “misleading,” the center would face fines of up to $10,000 for each violation. And if an individual who is not a state-licensed medical professional were to provide health information, services, or counseling, the medical doctors (M.D.s) at that facility could be fined up to $1,000, and other licensed health-care professionals could be fined up to $5,000." Obviously this is intended to close these centers, which depend on donations and volunteers to operate.

Naturally, abortion is only one issue near and dear to our state legislatures, albeit the most important. Trans stuff gets high priority around these parts as well. We are prohibited from using any common sense in such matters; the state demands that the feelings of the gender-confused take precedence over the needs of the non-mentally ill majority, especially in schools, and brings down the hammer on all who blaspheme.

Reparations to BIPOCs is also super important here, even though Vermont outlawed slavery in the state constitution in the 1790's. Nonetheless, because we are an overwhelmingly White state, we are racist by definition. All of us. So our moral betters in Montpelier have no end of schemes to relieve White Vermonters of their money and transfer it to more deserving people.

Every time I think our state government can't get any more stupid and useless, they up the ante.

Expand full comment

That is some sick shit right there…morally and financially.
