More interesting juxtapositions between these two, starting with the fact that one is beautiful, the other is hideous. And O's was built by many black people, who haven't been fully paid for their work yet.
It reminds me of the story of the teenager who says to her mother, “I hate you and want you out of my life, but first can you take Stephanie and me to the mall?” Too many American adults think and act like teenagers. In other words, they are self-indulgent and unserious, think they know more than they do, and have no judgment.
Yes…..very relatable. ‘I am 18 and I’ve been managing my own life since I was 14 and I like it that way so don’t be giving me any life advice’ but has never paid a bill or bought food, and expects college to be covered by the people he’s completely independent of.
One of my friends' mother had a big sign right on the front of the fridge: "Quick, move out and start paying bills and managing your own life while you still know everything."
Your comment resonates as I've been mulling over a certain subset of Boomers who for some strange reason are shilling for communism but calling it socialism.
These are the people who were the alphas of the punk rock scene. In their mid to late 60s, they still wear rock T-shirts, crazy shirts, and peg leg jeans. In other words, their style has not changed. Over the weekend, one such couple -- the male has just published some book on punk rock -- I said I was going back to NYC that day, and mentioned how depressing is the Atlantic City bus station, followed by Penn Station, and the general disorder there, which somehow segued to rent control and escalating market rents...
....and the guy said with palpable derision, (he owns his home btw): CAPITALISM.
I said, Well actually, the escalating cost of housing is caused by something else -- not capitalism, per say. That rent freeze is 'helping' people who are already being 'helped' by those of us condemned to pay escalating market rate rent. Is that due to capitalism, or subsidizing the people living in Greenwich Village paying $800 a month?
Boy, that's pretty blatant hypocrisy and absurdity. When you're my age (66), it's amazing to realize that during my lifetime the Left has done what I call (variously) the Orwellian 180, or going full Animal Farm. I remember when the corporate world was almost universally reviled by the Left, along with fascist government/private sector collusion, the intelligence community, Big (P)harma, etc. Now that they've made their Long March through the institutions, they just love The Man, perhaps because they *are* The Man.
Corporations have always known that government holds the public purse and can be counted on to spread the funds liberally to fund their self interest. Government knows that corporations pay well for services rendered; especially when the money is coming from the taxpayer.
You see, corporate statism (fascism) is fine as long as there's no nationalism or pride of country. Make it global and the Left loves it. Btw, corporations love bigger, more uniform markets...so much scale and efficiency. Nation states with differences in rules, regulations, and purchasing patterns are just a nuisance.
Yep. It’s why raw milk was outlawed. It’s why every little shop has to be licensed. It’s why non-returnable bottles were allowed in the ‘70s. It’s why breweries can’t directly sell food. It’s why you can’t distill whiskey and sell it. You can take it from here.
And looking at Chris' links, I realize that it's even worse...the usual RINO/Uniparty suspects also buy into this garbage and use it as a cheap opportunity to bash Trump. Beyond shameful.
What is true of creed is no less true of nationality. There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all. This is just as true of the man who puts “native” before the hyphen as of the man who puts German or Irish or English or French before the hyphen. Americanism is a matter of the spirit and of the soul. Our allegiance must be purely to the United States. We must unsparingly condemn any man who holds any other allegiance. But if he is heartily and singly loyal to this Republic, then no matter where he was born, he is just as good an American as anyone else.
The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic. The men who do not become Americans and nothing else are hyphenated Americans; and there ought to be[7] no room for them in this country. The man who calls himself an American citizen and who yet shows by his actions that he is primarily the citizen of a foreign land, plays a thoroughly mischievous part in the life of our body politic. He has no place here; and the sooner he returns to the land to which he feels his real heart-allegiance, the better it will be for every good American. There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
I appeal to history. Among the generals of Washington in the Revolutionary War were Greene, Putnam and Lee, who were of English descent; Wayne and Sullivan, who were of Irish descent; Marion, who was of French descent; Schuyler, who was of Dutch descent, and Muhlenberg and Herkemer, who were of German descent. But they were all of them Americans and nothing else, just as much as Washington. Carroll of Carrollton was a Catholic; Hancock a Protestant; Jefferson was heterodox from the standpoint of any orthodox creed; but these and all the other signers of the Declaration of Independence stood on an equality of duty and right and liberty, as Americans and nothing else.
So it was in the Civil War. Farragut’s father was born in Spain and Sheridan’s father in Ireland; Sherman and Thomas were of English and Custer of German descent; and Grant came of a long line of American ancestors whose original home had been Scotland. But the Admiral was not a Spanish-American; and the Generals were not Scotch-Americans or Irish-Americans or English-Americans or German-Americans.[8] They were all Americans and nothing else. This was just as true of Lee and of Stonewall Jackson and of Beauregard.
When in 1909 our battlefleet returned from its voyage around the world, Admirals Wainwright and Schroeder represented the best traditions and the most effective action in our navy; one was of old American blood and of English descent; the other was the son of German immigrants. But one was not a native-American and the other a German-American. Each was an American pure and simple. Each bore allegiance only to the flag of the United States. Each would have been incapable of considering the interests of Germany or of England or of any other country except the United States.
To take charge of the most important work under my administration, the building of the Panama Canal, I chose General Goethals. Both of his parents were born in Holland. But he was just plain United States. He wasn’t a Dutch-American; if he had been I wouldn’t have appointed him. So it was with such men, among those who served under me, as Admiral Osterhaus and General Barry. The father of one was born in Germany, the father of the other in Ireland. But they were both Americans, pure and simple, and first rate fighting men in addition.
In my Cabinet at the time there were men of English and French, German, Irish and Dutch blood, men born on this side and men born in Germany and Scotland; but they were all Americans and nothing else; and every one of them was incapable of thinking of himself or of his fellow-countrymen,[9] excepting in terms of American citizenship. If any one of them had anything in the nature of a dual or divided allegiance in his soul, he never would have been appointed to serve under me, and he would have been instantly removed when the discovery was made. There wasn’t one of them who was capable of desiring that the policy of the United States should be shaped with reference to the interests of any foreign country or with consideration for anything, outside of the general welfare of humanity, save the honor and interest of the United States, and each was incapable of making any discrimination whatsoever among the citizens of the country he served, of our common country, save discrimination based on conduct and on conduct alone.
For an American citizen to vote as a German-American, an Irish-American or an English-American is to be a traitor to American institutions; and those hyphenated Americans who terrorize American politicians by threats of the foreign vote are engaged in treason to the American Republic.""
Would he have the courage to name ‘Jewish Americans?’
This speech was made just at the outset of the wide distribution of the Oxford Bible, with Scofield’s notes included. The political class of that time considered religions which were not derived from familiar Christian dogma as alien, and very likely unfavorable.
The changes of religious affiliation began in earnest when an unfavored ‘class’ of people became the ‘apple of the prophetic eye’ as presented by the Dispensational projections of the Zionists into an otherwise unsophisticated class of Christians in the habit of taking a few texts too literally, while spiritualizing the texts that were inconvenient to their emphasis — on Zionist/Jewish ambitions to be included in the focus on end time events. Surely a god (YHWH) would leave the door open to a reviled Dispersion of ‘formerly’ ‘Chosen’ people whose customs were so ‘foreign’ to the generic, nominal Christian culture. Specious and private interpretations took hold under the less educated dependents on Dispensational religion, being its own variety distinctly apart from the settled doctrine of universal faith in the new priesthood of believers, strictly in Jesus as one with God the Father and the Holy Spirit whom He introduced as His continuing spiritual Revelator of truth. The Holy Trinity was settled orthodoxy until the emerging cults of the 19th century became the ‘progressives’ of the religious world, just as the ‘less’ religious, or irreligious became progressives of emerging political ideologies. This state of change in perspective religiously blended almost seamlessly with the Zionist ideology of ambition and reassertion as a meaningful national state. Which in TR’s worldview, would totally disqualify the ‘hyphenated’ concept of ‘Jewish American.’ But as ‘wayfaring strangers’ the empathy for Zionism grew amidst this new branch of heretical endeavor. Not in keeping with the given theology of the apostles, especially Peter and Paul, but as popular culture shift within independent ministry.
My tradition within orthodox Christianity is to respect the estate of observant Jews, because of their history of once being the means by which salvation would come to the world. Not for the purpose of stealth by doctrine, as with Dispensationalism, but by the living witness of an upright character. The love Christians should have for one another is admonished to be real, and likewise must be real for every ‘fallen’ member of the human race. An honest effort to be of service, with genuine concern for beneficial results is required as of service to the Lord. Balance with dignity of character and natural rights in the orderly conduct of life indicates true religion.
Dispensational theology wrongfully sets a double standard for preferred status. This is always a great mistake, and ultimately a great injustice. The adage that ‘God is no respecter of persons’ never takes away the basic principle of Free Agency, but neither does it bestow special favor on any national or tribal identity.

"The TRPLF is a non-profit organization formed in 2014 to plan, build and oversee operations of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in North Dakota."
I somehow suspect that Theodore Roosevelt himself would not approve of the whole concept of presidential libraries if he were alive today. I believe he had most of his papers given to the Library of Congress.
"The Library of Congress spent years amassing its Roosevelt collection, which is the largest presidential collection at the institution. Members of Roosevelt’s family made important contributions, including his eldest daughter, also named Alice, who donated seven volumes of her father’s diaries in 1958. But the bulk of the materials were a gift from Roosevelt himself. He was friends with George Herbert Putnam, who served as the Librarian of Congress from 1899 to 1939. Almost two decades into Putnam’s appointment, on December 1916, Roosevelt sent him a missive intimating that he would like to donate his many papers to the library—on several conditions.
“Mrs. Roosevelt and I have been talking over the disposition of my great mass of papers,” he wrote in the letter. “They include, in immense numbers, copies of my letters and of letters to me while I was President; also letters from sovereigns, etc., etc. If I sent them to you, could they be catalogued and arranged, and permission given to me, or any of my representatives, to examine them at any time, with a clear understanding that no one else was to see them until after my death?”
Putnam agreed to comply with Roosevelt’s requests, and not long after, six large, locked boxes containing the coveted papers arrived at the library. In a subsequent note to Roosevelt, Putnam noted that staff was waiting on the keys to arrive before they started classifying and arranging the documents. Roosevelt seemed eager for the process to begin.
“The Lord only knows where the key is,” he fired back. “Break the cases open and start to work on them!”"
I regularly drive up and down I-81 in Virginia, past the Woodrow Wilson Presidential whatever-the-hell it is, and the only desire I have to visit is to micturate copiously on every aspect of his life. I'm not going to risk ever stopping there.

Regulation keeps competitors out of play, unless they are also set up by the ”players” to protect the game.
Absolutely!
This is part of what they mean by "regulatory capture," right? I just learned that term recently and I'm trying to get my head around it.

Well last night my wife and daughter spent an hour complaining at me about my many failures to soothe their fears; in the house I pay for.
I can relate to ConocoPhillips. What choice is there? It's not like we can kick the ungrateful out to the streets, Atlas shrugged.
You can charge Monthly Rent ?
People usually appreciate and treasure what they have paid for.

Hamilton. Some refer to it as the Hamiltonian "American System". The point is, we have been under British rule since 1913. That's ending.
exactly right, Lincoln only got elected because of the death of the Whig Party.

The unfortunate truth is that TR’s feud with Taft gave us Woodrow Wilson. His early life was remarkable and is wonderfully told by Edmund Morris.
Well, when the sick evil visit the Library and read the uplifting messages, I hope they feel they got value for their money.
I regularly drive up and down I-81 in Virginia, past the Woodrow Wilson Presidential whatever-the-hell it is, and the only desire I have to visit is to micturate copiously on every aspect of his life. I'm not going to risk ever stopping there.
Thanks for your good work. Also, you might want to correct that penultimate "to." There's your legacy to consider after all.
Hilariously funny Chris and too depressing to laugh at .
