So: SB 866, which the California Senate just passed and sent to the Assembly. In a 40-senator body, it got 21 votes, with eleven senators not voting. Remember that the author of the bill, Senator Scott Wiener, a 52 year-old man who has no children but acts with confidence to sever the parent-child relationship, proudly posted on Twitter that the bill just expands on an idea of childhood autonomy that’s already well-established in California:
How did people respond to this? Let’s check in on the replies to Wiener’s tweets:
And so on. Go through the Twitter thread yourself — unless I missed it, I don’t see a single positive response. Wiener’s proposal was uniformly condemned by everyone who responded to it.
So let’s look somewhere else. Here are some of the comments on legiscan.com, a legislation tracking website:
And so on. Again, you can click on the link and see for yourself: universal condemnation.
Here’s a comment thread at the San Jose Mercury News, from a story last week, noting that the bill was headed for passage:
This bill is loathed, the premises behind it are loathed and condemned, and the bill passes in the senate.
I expressed opposition to this bill to my senator, Anthony Portantino, several times. Here was my first message, with his legislative director, district director, and chief of staff on the CC line:
Senator Portantino,
No piece of legislation has ever made me angrier than SB 866, a bill that proposes to remove parents from parenting. Along with my wife, I am responsible for my child's health and safety, first, last, and always. I am her father; the state is not. You have no right to intrude on this relationship.
Second, the reckless obtuseness of the California legislature on the safety and efficacy of the available Covid-19 vaccines is appalling. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine received emergency use authorization on Feb. 27, 2021; on May 5, 2022, the FDA sharply restricted the use of that vaccine, on the grounds that it poses substantial risks to people who receive it. We are learning new things about vaccines that were rushed through limited clinical trials. The Pfizer vaccine, the only vaccine available to children, is known to cause myocarditis in some children who receive it, and to offer protection against infection that wanes sharply and quickly.
So: You take away the right of parents to be involved in medical decisions for their children, then children get Covid-19 vaccines without parental consent or knowledge, then children are hospitalized with myocarditis – from a medical treatment they received without parental consent, or even parental knowledge. No one will ever forgive you for voting to do this to their children. No one will ever forget. This assault on family relationships will mark you for life.
Do not vote for this shameful bill.
Chris Bray
He voted for it.
They don’t care what you think. They don’t care what you want. They don’t care about your anger and your disgust. They do what they want. Your elected representatives do not represent you.
California just lost a seat in the House of Representatives, a first, because of outmigration and limited population growth in an increasingly deranged and misgoverned state. Families have led the exodus, and public school enrollment has been declining. They don’t care.
What they care about is the ideological project of damaging the parent-child relationship and destabilizing the family. Interesting.
This is all part of the Purge. It is a strategy to get rid of normal people and create a neo-feudal system of serfs and lords. Its working spendidly as I can attest here in North Idaho. At least it would seem the majority that are moving here are conservatives that want to save this state from the RINOs (that are mostly actually Democrats that run as Republicans) that are running it. But their kids seem pretty screwed up already...
Let's see what California Politicians think when parents begin pulling their children out of public school en mass! Make sure they know why you are pulling out your child!
