If non-whitemen have a higher rate of novelty overall, but whitemen have a higher rate of *impactful* novelty, doesn't that rather suggest that non-whitemen generate more ideas that are useless and unworkable?

I’m a professional engineer. All this shit has already completely infested my professional regulatory body and every engineering firm. Remember what Pete Bootyjudge (sp?...ah who cares!) said: roads are racist.

It’s not just racist roads. Photons and electrons are racist. Moments of inertia are racist. The conservation of momentum is sexist. And thermodynamics is transphobic. None of this can be made right unless far more of my professional peers are brown skinned uterus owning people-kinds.

I can't speak for all STEM jobs, but I want my surgeons and pilots to be big on "novelty".

I can't believe people get grants for sh*t like this.

It's called "the long march through the institutions". Weaponizing the Peter Principle is just for starters.

Now the "alphabet" people have invaded science - not that NSF funding was not political before - it was. The upshot of this escalation of wokeness is that only conformists to this notion of BIPOC will want to enter the academic research world which in turn will exponentially expand that concept to keep sane people out. Try to propose a study of the beneficial effects of carbon dioxide on health and growth and see if you can get funded. Are tall plants discriminating against small plants and are fires preferring trees with less water? Chris - I don't know where this ends - but it's not in a good place. I refused two academic appointments in teaching science in the 70s because funding was biased toward favorite projects of the people with connections to the funders. Thank for highlighting this.

perhaps "their novel contributions are discounted” because novelty alone doesn't make a piece of work relevant or important

Two alternate acronyms:

IDEA BJ

JAB DIE

Both seem oddly appropriate.

It has taken me a few days to comment after reading this, because my mind cannot process that anyone at NSF actually and unironically deployed the ridiculous acronym “BAJEDI.” It sounds vaguely like it has something to do with Star Wars and baccalaureates to me. Absurd.

Call the code already: science as we once knew it is dead. What this thing is in its place, I don’t ever want to know.
