I was very surprised on opening your link to find this was actually a very, very good song, on its own merits. A classic protest song--could have been from the 60s, almost.

The video for the song is painful for me to watch, though - because seeing a newborn in plastic, a child hugging plastic, a child choking on masks - all my rage and sorrow rise up in my chest.

But the lyrics are perfect. I want to learn them and sing along.

So NS Lyons noted that the right is becoming cool, hip, becoming underground. Matt Taibi noted that the right has humor and the left does not. And now we have an honest-to-goodness protest song that really does say it all, and it is not from the left. Truly, it is a cultural shift we are part of.

Thank you very, very much for sharing. After watching Bill Maher's Friday despair regarding a shift to the right, I am happy to be so clearly reminded that it's not just "Oh, denying elections" that will (I hope, though I consider myself a Dan Carlin - style political martian) shift the scale to the right (or rather, once-center?). It's a matter of seeing children born in plastic sheets, for no good reason.

The song was by Five Times August. The artist’s video to his song “I will not be leaving quietly” is equally stirring https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1NVnfM_H7TY

I like it!

I might be full of rage half the time, but I still got humor... And I'm not even sure what you mean by "right" and "left" anymore. I'm dyslexic, anyway. ;)

That said, I felt the same way, this song is RIGHT ON, in the best way, the true way... authentic. And it got me, too, right in the heart strings.

Children in plastic... My God, what the fuck are we doing ??????????

And

Seen this one? It's a bit old now, but... Most Excellent.

Went and watched a bit of Bill Maher because he’s been a surprising voice of reason the last year or so, but he’s still pretty soundly in the camp of “democracy dies when the other side wins”. I mean, I’m still confused how people go that extreme in thinking. Shifts in power happen constantly. CONSTANTLY. And any politician who says “we’ll never have a democrat this or that again” is hopefully being misquoted but if not, is lying.

It's not what we call them, it what they DO. Right?

If democrats want fascism, then their name doesn't fit anymore.

Let's call them something else, maybe, like... I dunno, "Losers"? ;)

Yeah, how did Bill Maher "evolve" to support authoritarianism?

Loved the song, too.

"Keep staring at your smart phone

Get dumber every week"

Stay strong and get strong.

God bless us all, everyone.

I think it depends what you use your “dumb phone” for. I educate myself.

I would venture a guess what he's talking about:

Seeing six young people sitting around a table in a restaurant... texting each other.

lol

That song could be days long with all the clips out there of lunacy. Let’s hope it is temporary insanity and not a chemically induced permanent state.

it's the state of a dying Empire. It's just a slow crawl to the inevitable.

As someone who lives in the DC area, and works in DC, I have seen this world portrayed in this video. But I have traveled home to Florida many times over the past couple of years, where the world looks nothing like this. But you don't have to go to Florida to see a normal world. You can drive about an hour northwest of DC and find it. You can find it in upstate NY, where my wife's family lives. I'm convinced this lunatic fringe is confined to the big, democrat-run cities. (Although, I was in Miami last summer and it was pretty close to normal.)

Thank you Chris. All is never lost; not when we stand together against the tide. Jesus is calling us.

I got so sick of those insipid Youtube warnings I finally told Brave to block the element. Now I don't see them at all.

thanks for sharing this great video. I will share it too.

At times lately I have felt a visceral fury over all the assaults on decency and common sense and our loss of freedoms. Then I am reminded that Jesus takes up our pain and bears our suffering (Isaiah 53). It’s ok to ask Him what is happening to us, then realize and trust He already knows. He wins in the end and I am so grateful.

Wow -- This was really good, much to my surprise. I have sent lots of copies out there. It deserves more than 294K views. Thanks for this "out of left field" contribution to my Substack day!

Thanks. Also great. Who knew? Wonder if they are over 30 (never trust anyone over 30 -- now that dates me...)

Might be the opposite these days! ^_^

Yes, vote for all R's, even the sorry ones. Remember Joseph De Maistre's observation of the French Revolution and the collapse of their society: "People in democracies get the governments they deserve".

Me too. The idea that I would be voting straight Republican would have been absolutely risible to anyone who knew me a decade ago. A good number of Rs are loathsome, but they are the only thing standing in opposition to the noxious Democrats.

The song was good. I don’t understand why the call for voting though. 2020 as well as the run off since have proven that Voting like it matters in fact doesn’t matter. We have seen that ALL voting centers are using Wi-Fi where they are not supposed to use any connection to the internet.

Our officials do not care as nothing has been done about the 2020 improprieties in that election. In fact, both sides have done nothing but stonewall attempts to find out what happened. Just go and look at what Wendy Rogers from Arizona has done since the audit of Maricopa County as an example.

As much as I really want to vote, I realize that it’s a rigged game and not worth playing in this political game anymore. Nothing changes, no one who does illegal activities in politics faces real justice like any of us would. So screw em. At least I know that I’m not part of the problem. Besides why vote when all your vote does is get changed electronically or, nothing more than countering a dead persons vote. Both parties are culpable as they feel they are above the regular citizen. The political class are traitors to the constitution and I will not allow for my approval of this by voting.

Agree completely. Churchill said that democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others. Politicians are much the same. What we have to do is identify Dems running as R's and stop, or defeat them if they're already in power, and replace them with populists/conservative/libertarians. Which means we all must be informed citizens.

Only if they and we don’t wake up soon enough. In anycase it isn’t about a dying empire, though I know why some will gloat over that erroneous idea, it is about an attempt to transfer power from the people to the elites, to end the experiment with freedom and democracy under the premise that people cannot be trusted to do the right thing. And recent evidence suggests this may be correct, people have been extraordinarily self centred and sepf indulgent. However I suspect this is manufactured by poor education, poor moral leadership and a disconnect with history. We will put this right or sink into totalitarianism. Like the rest of the world…
