We are blessed to be living through perhaps the most fascinating laboratory experiment in history.

Those of us who for whatever reason have not been chosen (by god or circumstance) to be on Team Left get to be the control group, while the treatment group has agreed to inject the Critical Theory brain virus directly into their cerebrums.

Watch the real-time reactions! See them twist their lips into anxious pretzels trying to make sure they speak only regime-approved jargon! See what happens to someone whose every word thought & deed becomes about performances of public piety! See how many of the hypothetical marginalized can be referenced in a single sentence! Count how many rituals they can add to their professions of faith!

Side effects may include emotional incontinence, intellectual incoherence and possibly fatal levels of neuroticism.

I wonder how our time/place compares to ones in dynastic China where the name of the game was "performances of public piety"

Maybe we're not living through an unusual experiment at all. Maybe we're living through a well-established experiment, one that has been successfully completed many times in other eras and places.

absolutely true, there is no new thing under the sun, and history is the same few plays performed over and over just with different costumes, languages, gadgets etc...but in Confucian China the foundation of their ethos was filial piety whereas the ethos of Crit Theory is based on its opposite, the hatred and denunciation of our ancestors...so it's a spicy new twist on an old favorite.

This is the effect of the religious-mindedness imposed by the priestly class. The priests get you to indulge in their mindless ritual and next thing you know, they completely control you. We live in an age where the government intel agent is not discernible from the priest (thought leader), and priests are strewn throughout popular culture. The Codex Oera Linda describes a population so mentally under the control of its priests they were afraid of demons and ghosts and were very superstitious. The priests used their fear to make them do whatever the priests wanted. Religion is the curse of the witch Circe (church) which turns all men into swine. It's called priestcraft and it's not brand new.

Chris, we're on the same team but you missed some of the context for this video.

Harris was at a roundtable with disability advocates, including blind people. Harris was announcing this for the benefit of the blind people at the table.

In any other context, yes, this would have been bizarre.

This is fair.

No it's still completely bizarre. Why stop at what she is wearing? If there is a need to inform the blind of useless facts why stop there? I could be wrong (I don't know any one that's blind) but this feels like another Latinx scenario to me, a stupid invention of condescending academics.

Expand full comment
Chris Bray's avatar

Yeah, I think "fair but not dispositive" is in the ballpark. If someone told her that physical description is polite in a meeting with the visually impaired, it's slightly less reptilian than the rest of the behaviors. I don't know why someone would need Kamala Harris to tell them "I am a woman," but it's b-grade weirdness rather than her usual aaa-grade weirdness.

Plus, I think most of us have had the experience of listening to hundreds of hours of a podcast, radio show, or audiobook narrator without knowing what anyone looks like, and for me this is what tips the scales towards this being performative bullshit.

Legally blind, visually impaired people might. But seriously, masks? Yeah, having your face covered with a black object that covers most of it, and muffles your speech, that must be helpful for the visually impaired and people with difficulty hearing. But, she was able to identify herself as a woman, even though she's not a biologist. There's that.

Remember SNL “Ballet for the Blind”? See if you can still find it…hilarious!

Expand full comment
Chris Bray's avatar

Mostly as I watched the Harris video I was thinking of SNL's "Bad Performance Art," video of which appears to have vanished from the Internet. It featured blank-eyed artists jumping up and down and shouting things like, "Chicken lips! Chicken lips! A kiss from a dying child!" After which Dan Akroyd, as the host, said something like, "Well, that was truly horrible."

If the left suggests gender has no meaning besides what each person gives it, then there is no point in announcing your gender. But beyond that, blind people don’t need to know your pronouns, so, yes, it was performative.

Holy Cow. This is so laughable, it's scary. You are right, Chris. No apologies necessary for not being able to help yourself from posting this. "Social disease, There’s not a millisecond of authenticity or humanness to any of it." so true. And, she had to look down to see what color suit she had on. No. Kamala, your pronouns are dumb and dumber. sorry. I can't help it either, Chris. The mantra for the proletariat has been released for the day. Now, all we have to do is sit back and watch the media repeat the exact same lines as their recipe knowledge for ritual today.

The "hostage video" comment was absolutely spot on and made me laugh! Fantastic was to describe the performative lot. I saw a tweet a few weeks ago where some performative jurno was interviewing Tucker Carlson (no I don't watch any news including Fox - I just watched the tweet video) where Tucker shot back at the fake journo's question with: I'm mostly paraphrasing here but I'll get the point right. Tucker - "it feels good to show up at my job every day because I can say what I want. I bet you can't. There are only two genders and only women can get pregnant. Say that right now [Tucker says to the fake journalist - I'm adding this because I don't recall the name]!" The fake journalist wouldn't say it! HE COULDN'T or he would have been fired! Two things, either the guy actually believes a real man can get pregnant or Tucker is 100% right. He can't say it because he'll get fired. Imagine showing up at a job EVERYDAY knowing you have to perform for your paycheck! The overused "liberalism is a disease" phrase does get kind of old but the reality is, these liberals need help! They're just f-ing nuts...

No worries about post flooding today Chris. This one gave me a laugh though. Kamala Harris is as sincere as the vax shot got last year. The one where the nurse pulled it out of his pocket, unfolded the syringe like a pocketknife, and jabbed her arm. I have that video saved on my desktop at home as it was scrubbed a day afterward. I’ve shown it to others just to prove to them I wasn’t going crazy at the time.

When they things like she did I am always trying to wonder the reason they say such moronic things. Are they trying to reaffirm themselves in this great lie, or so vapid, they don’t realize how idiotic the script makes them look?

For whatever it might be worth, I have known blind people and know some now. Many of them are quite sharp (One of them now leads 'literary' bus tours of the environs and dwellings of well known authors in Concord, MA -- after a long career 'overseas'). It's just guessing, but I don't think any of them would appreciate what Harris said, would instead find it annoying and somewhat patronizing... "am a woman..." "dressed in blue..."
