Please never stop. Your wit uncovers layers of the insanity that even I, in my depths of cynicism, often miss. It is an essential function in our maintaining sanity and remembering how to be normal.

I agree...a nice piece this. And when it comes to "it means just what I choose it to mean", the ubiquitous adoption of the word "gay" (by the right as much as by the left) must head the leader board of politicised word mangling. As I wrote in this piece of my own a while back "‘Gay’ is another Newspeak linguistic virus. Homosexuals are no more likely to fit the term than anyone else. They might well have a few extra issues to deal with - like their inability to procreate for instance - and so be slightly less cheerily carefree than your average Joe. There might though be a silver lining to the cloud of their inner struggles; they might paint a Sistine Chapel ceiling or write A la Recherche du Temps Perdu. But this would not be nearly so likely if they were so full of self-congratulatory narcissism that they wasted their creative energies relentlessly waving Gay Pride banners even in situations where this is completely beside the point." https://grahamcunningham.substack.com/

Charles Eisenstein readily concurs: sanity is an inherently collective project 🙂

🗨 sanity, it's to expand our acceptance of reality to include the things that had been left out, or exiled, because they were uncomfortable, because they didn't fit, because they challenged our self, our identity or a worldview.

🗨 this expansion of our beliefs, cannot be done through individual heroism.[...] I'm not made of different stuff than anyone else. I *can't stay sane on my own*.

In a world where people value symbols over substance, words ultimately lose their meaning.

It's like that comment I see on Twitter frequently: "Antifa can't be fascist; it's in the name."

And keep doing what you're doing. You keep the rest of us grounded and remind us we're not alone. And more often than not, you make us laugh.

I doubt this ends well, but that doesn't mean we have to go gracefully, silently, or sadly.

On a somewhat related note, a letter from PG&E arrived today. Did you know "power outages" are called "safety outages" now?

Expand full comment

Why, yes. I’ve experienced those in San Bernardino a few times. It was for our safety that on Thanksgiving, we sit in the dark for over 24 hours. The old folks in the neighborhood lost all their refrigerated food, on top of their thanksgiving dinners. All for our protection, of course. All planned in advance. Sort of. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Just left the bay area. What are they calling all those pretty chemtrails these days?

You nailed it Chris.

The language gets "smaller", but at the same time, "wider" every year; pruning nuance while expanding confusion by imposing tediousness.

Population is easier to control that way.

I knew nothing of you, and then saw your interview with Tucker Carlson. Oh my, someone articulating my contemplations. Please never stop trying to tilt this windmill. I will help support your Go Fund Me page should they haul you off in view of your neighbors.

Wait Chris was on Tucker? Do you have an URL?

The episode was aired on 7/19/22 and it was fantastic!!

Thanks! I'll try to track it down.

It was only ever available to paid subscribers on Fox Nation, and I'm not sure if Tucker's content is still available there.

I cut the cable cord several months ago right after Fox canned Tucker. I kept my subscription to FoxNation streaming, although probably won't renew it once it expires. They removed all the Tucker segments the day after firing him, however several weeks ago I discovered his archived Today episodes could still be accessed through the "Search" function of the menu. I was able to watch his full interview of Elon Musk, the final TC Today episode. I haven't checked recently, so the search option may no longer work now. I really enjoyed his hour-long interviews, which introduced me to a lot of interesting people (including a certain C. Bray!)

He was on Tucker Carlson Today (on Fox Nation app) maybe a year ago? It's how we "discovered" Chris, too. I no longer have the Fox Nation membership, so I can't link it, sorry.

See my comment above. Try the "Search" function on Fox Nation to find archived TC Today episodes.

Thank you Chris Bray. You are the first Substack subscription for me (I saw your interview with Tucker Carlson and immediately signed up), and still my favorite. All the best to you and yours - may your pencil always be sharp and your wit more so!

Chris, we are out here in real-ville, grateful for your perspective and observations, even if you don’t hear from us often enough. And we are hungry for truth and reality. In the past few years, my wife and I have dealt with the Alzheimer’s and incompetency of one parent, two types of dementia in two other parents, and the schizophrenic delusions of a child. We are eager for truth. Spiritually, we find it in God’s word. In the world, we find it in the works of writers like you. Thank you for writing it down. Please continue to share.
