Kamala Harris, today:

"Republicans want to ban books. We want to ban assault weapons."

https://twitter.com/KamalaHarris/status/1744395212950995107

EVERY message is built on establishing false dichotomies.

Expand full comment

Democrats also went to ban assault books, assault tweets, assault blog posts, and assault-protesters, defined by anything that goes against the narrative.

Expand full comment

The D's assault on our language, (of which I became cognizant in the 1960s), appears to have reached, or be reaching, it's apex with this use of "assault" as the verb of choice to describe ANY disagreement with the narrative of the day.

And, "assault", as we all know, is a crime. Therefore, any disagreement with the narrative is, by definition, criminal activity.

It will be interesting, in the sense of the old Chinese curse, to see if the powers that be attempt to use this tidal wave of "criminality" to justify draconian measures to "maintain the peace", or "postpone" this fall's elections. Could they be THAT stupid?

Expand full comment

They don't see it as stupid. It's how they get their way. Every. Single. Time.

Cheat and threaten.

Expand full comment

Yes. Yes they could.

Expand full comment

The left already did that in 2020 with rigged elections, show trial convictions of Jan 6ers, and covid lockdowns. Why think 2024 will be different?

Expand full comment

Right?! They started this process in earnest when they started banning words 30 years ago.

Now they've moved on to definitions.

Totalitarianism 101.

Expand full comment

Yes, but the real question is this: if the average voter has an eighth grade ability to process language, why give them a vote? If voters are so easily manipulated, what good is democracy?

Even intelligent voters are woefully ignorant of fundamental economic issues or the political theories behind our constitution and Bill of Rights.

Copypasta word salad. Would love to be a fly on the wall in the group chats where they get talking points on the same thing about the current thing. The most pathetic are the paid court eunuch shills like victor shi and Harry sisson.

Pretty sure I heard the '8th grade reading level' in junior high or high school when talking about how newspapers were written to this reading level.

I do not suffer fools, at least not without obvious anguish on my face. I despise willful ignorance much more than lack of cognitive horsepower. The deadly combination of willfully blind and cognitively dim, which is likely half of the leftist voting block, is a dangerous, malleable force. Antifa. BLM.

I just edited my own post. In hindsight, I do not like how I felt after posting something about the pill-popping lefty women. While true, it is also cruel. That is not my best self.

Can we just skip to November? Everything that happens between now and then is rounding error: Arguing about whether this train can stop in under 1000 feet, when the amount of track ahead is about 50 yards long, backed by a steep, rocky ravine.

If we skip the whole bullshit exercise, we can go about our lives without having to ingest garbage all year long. Maybe, if left alone for the next 10 months, ordinary people will think and see clearly enough to recognize the giant grift taking place.

I used to backpack all through Kentucky and Tennessee when I was younger. Red River Gorge, Big South Fork, The Appalachian trail. There's nothing like the freedom of carrying everything you need on your back and working with nature to find the rest. My hiking days are behind me after injuring both hips, although I still do some light trails every year. I envy you. Enjoy! P. S. Never pass up a fresh, clean water source! 😁

We supposedly have that here in Chinada... our next election is “set” for 2025 and all we’re getting from PM Blackface is “the Conservatives are bringing MAGA style politics to Canada” 😱🤦🏻‍♀️

I hate politicians for the most part.

Although I’ve come to detest the parliamentary system (courtesy of Justin “Indian Blackface” Trudeau), there is one positive attribute: campaigning (in the UK at least) is limited to the 6 wks before Election Day.

Their performances and speeches, their indignation and hollow claims, their 2-penny patronizing and condescending circuses are reaching ever smaller audiences. I suspect vast majority of people have tuned them out and therefore the political class is speaking to itself and to those in their hubristic and vain bubble of self-important elite. The real power, banksters and oligarchs, won't be able to use the politicals as distractions for much longer.

As a counter effort:

- Each one reach one.

- Lead locally.

- Confrontation with opposing facts is a blessing the hearer hasn't realized yet.

- Free speech is essential to free living.

- The W.H.O. is not your friend. (just threw that in for free : ))

Short, to the point, and someone that reads on an 8th grade level would understand all those points. 😉👍

What, ultimately, is the point of all their activity? What is their end goal? What motivates all this angst over words and the deep need to present a unified front lest the plebs think for themselves?

What animates these clowns? Does anyone else find their relentless drive completely exhausting as it seems to serve nothing except adolescent emotional needs while wrecking whole nations?

They must "save" democracy by neutering Federalism so they can destroy our Republic.

That's what's really going on.

How many of those in the 1/3rd of people you mention know the difference between a democracy and a Republic?

Combine that with 80% plus (latest poll) of Democrats that believe Trump should be disqualified from running as POTUS makes it clear to me they know what they're doing based on "demographics".

Considering that the educational system in America has been dominated by the Left in general, and Democrats in particular, for decades, it's no surprise that the average American reads at an 8th grade level.

Expand full comment

Alternate explanation: As the Left dominates politics, entertainment and journalism, perhaps the 8th grade communication level is due to the 8th grade ideas they’re pushing.

Duckspeak, in other words.

Still looks like Leni Riefenstahl and Hugo Boss did the backdrop for that speech.

Tedious as it is, this form of messaging works. I was in the middle of the advertising agency biz throughout the 60's , 70's and 80's and even back then, we knew that if you repeat anything often enough people will believe it (that's why we always measured frequency). The second thing we knew was just when we (the writers and creative brains) were becoming sick of the message, the public was just beginning to "get it". The third thing, was the 8th grade level was the standard for writing then, too. If those three universal principles of communication have lasted this long, it's unlikely any of these will disappear in our lifetime. Somehow it makes it easier to tolerate when one recognizes the strategy.

Expand full comment

Literacy has declined sharply since the 60s, 70s, and 80s, so repetition and simplicity are probably even more effective now. The one thing that makes me hold out hope is that the messenger probably matters, and the ruling class cast of characters is viscerally repulsive, starting with the pantshitter. And I can't watch Hakeem Jeffries at all, flapping his hands around like dying fish.

Expand full comment

And I should have added that it's also much easier to take when we can bury it all in humor. You cracked me up once again, Chris. Thanks for being there.

Expand full comment

I'm still torn between "pantshitter" and "pantsshitter." Forgive my OCD.

Expand full comment

The Internet seems to prefer pants shitter.

Expand full comment

Pant shitter would mean it only goes down one leg.

Expand full comment

"pantsshitter" looks like a direct translation from German: Hosenscheißer. If English adopted the double s character we could have pantßhitter.

I think the best rendering is "pants-shitter." It has an antiquated quality appropriate to the dog-faced pony-soldier like "to-day" or "hi-jinks"

The eight grade reading level strategy is insulting. That said, I am a little relieved we are being spared the type of flowery, tedious writing these people would love to inflict on us all if they weren’t convinced we were too dumb to understand it.

Any work that uses “dialectic” is written by someone with simple ideas trying to baffle with bullshit. Some subjects, like medicine, require extremely precise terminology. But a writer’s objective should be to communicate clearly, accurately and effectively without making the reader work his ass off just to pierce a shroud of jargon employed to signal “superiority.”
