Flooded my mind with cool imagery.

Jocko Wilink type character with fingers like bratwursts looking up from a laptop that looks like a postage stamp under his meaty paws, one eyebrow raised seemingly asking, "Are you serious bro? Do you really want to rumble?"

Aggressively disinterested.

Walking into the gym and turning off the CNN/FOX news on all of the flatscreens around the treadmills. "PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR BREATHING, YOUR STRIDE, YOUR INTERVAL, NOT THE NEWS!!!!!"

Aggressively disinterested.

Not just cutting the cable, but tossing the 55" flatscreen out of our home.

Aggressively disinterested.

Confronting the leftist school board teachers' union rep who drops off campaign pablum on your door:

Wasn’t it William F. Buckley, Jr. who said: “I am obliged to confess I should sooner live in a society governed by the first two thousand names in the Boston telephone directory than in a society governed by the two thousand faculty members of Harvard University”? It’s why Sowell talked about the tyranny of the anointed - these people will literally kill you “for your own good”, and sleep soundly that night truly believing they have blessed you by visiting on you their misguided interventions.

In all of those announcements above, the fear of a humorous Trump for example, you can easily see the absolute contempt they have for ordinary people. That was Sowell's basic point. If you go back and watch those movies back to back through the lens of 2024, the first is a masterpeice: it's dark, but funny as hell and your typical hero arc about a guy saving his family. Mel Gibson, Glover etc are amazing in it, and I will never stop loving it.

The second movie is a diatribe about how white people are bad (especially those thieving South Africans and all their white racism...yeah how has that turned out for everyone involved? Communists now run the country and are attempting a genocide) and Mel starts to turn into a giant flaming liberal vagina. It isn't complete until the fourth movie....but I digress.

Also, Lethal Weapon is a Christmas movie.

But he (Robert of Locksley) wasn't exactly breaking the rules as such - he was opposing a regime and a church that broke the rules first, in order to steal lands and privileges from his class of yeoman and lower nobility.

Now, I haven't read the book in a long while, but as I remember it, it was more about villifying King John and especially Guy de Gisbourne as violators of the feodal and traditional compact between king and subject more than idolising Locksley as a rulebreaker?

Now, I removed his app from my phone, cannot listen to a podcast, and wonder if it was me--or was he hiding his unbalanced narcissism?

Got an email about my meditation app subscription, "Sir, we are unable to process your payment..."

I answered, "Sam Harris the absolute worst advertisement for meditation. If he is what life-long meditation practitioners become--I will stop meditating today."

I enjoyed regularly listening to Harris' podcast after first being introduced to him many years ago. I think it was sometime in 2017 when he started interjecting non sequitur tirades about moronic Trump voters into otherwise interesting pseudo-philosophical topics. After a few of these record-scratch, where-the-f*ck-did-that-come-from outbursts, I decided he was losing it and started questioning how seriously I should take anything he said. That's when I stopped listening.

Seeing his more recent public appearances feels like watching someone with a degenerative mental disorder who has refused treatment. I think his intellectual arrogance combined with the cognitive dissonance of so many smart people disagreeing with him about Trump and Covid has a corrosive effect on his mind.

I’m no Trump apologist (someone close to him needs to install a filter or, on occasion, tell him to JUST SHUT UP), but it’s obvious the media constantly twist everything he says and does. I suppose I should thank you for documenting this constant avalanche of delusion, but, honestly, I've lost interest in it. The question in the upcoming election is, "Are we to be a self-governing nation or one by the government, of the government, and for the government?" 95% of federal government employees agree that Trump is the worst threat to OurDemocracy™ because the government provides for their own lavish life-styles and throws a few scraps to the hopeless/homeless/addicted/larcenous because desperate people are willing to take what they can get, which isn't much.

Nothing these people say or do means anything to me anymore. They keep "explaining" to me why I should never believe my own eyes and ears. I'm willing to bet that most Trump voters are the same way at this point. The leftist constituency is now folks who owe their living to the government, folks who owe the government more than they can pay (in student loan debt), and folks who are happy to get the meager scraps that fall from the government free-lunch counter.

The only question is can they steal enough votes this time? Unfortunately the smart money says yes.

Sam Francis had it right: "What they mean by 'democracy' is nothing more than the system of dominance that came to prevail in the United States and the Western world in the last half of the last century. That system has nothing to do with elections, opposition parties, civil and political rights, or 'liberty,' nor does it have anything to do with political theory, ancient or modern. 'Democracy,' as the neocons and the President and most others who are enthusiastic about it use the word, means the centralized leviathan state under the firm and unqualified control of the managerial bureaucracy and those political forces able to influence it."

The left has been getting more an more comfortable with violence. Starting with the mobs attacking Trump supporters in 2016 and concluding with the Summer of Love, there has been a clear escalating trend in the level of violence they are comfortable with. The hysterical language we see is establishing the justification for both a further escalation of violence and using the agents of the state to deliver that violence.

It is an end unto itself. Paired with the utopianism inherent in all liberal and progressive ideas (as opposed to pragmatic and realist ideas) and said utopian ideal being impossible because it is anti-reality, it sticks them in a recursive loop.

Very close to how some neuroses/psychoses work. "Do X for good result -> Good result not forthcomin -> Do X for good result".

But actual neurosis/psychosis may be treatable as the sufferer perceives it as an alien influence they'd rather live without.

For your liberals (not writing out all the labels, I'm too lazy) it is instead an adopted identity offering them meaning and belonging, and perpetual bitter resentful anger helps keep the ennui and sense of lack of meaning away (despite said feelings stemming from their inherent relativism and high school nihilism).

All of that makes it untreatable since it isn't a mental illness as such, just a very different way of perceiving, communicating and interacting with the world. Essentially, they are a different culture from yours, with their own sets of ethics, morals, customs and so on.

They are working to keep the faithful as wound up as possible. As much as I don't want to see a fourth term of the Obama administration, and WILL VOTE FOR TRUMP, I am very concerned with his rhetoric about vaccines, Operation Warp Speed, and his inability to acknowledge the harm he did in printing $6T with the CARES ACT. Biden surely made things worse with inflation, abetted by the hapless Fed, but Trump got the ball rolling.

Expand full comment

This 💯 “They are working to keep the faithful as wound up as possible”

I’m struggling to think the opposition isn’t feeling the same burnout over the endless rhetoric. It’s sometimes exhausting (but necessary) to read about the delusional angst-ridden TDS screeds; but to do that and FEEL likewise all the frickin’ time? How is that even possible? They’ve gone way past the mandated 2 minute hate sessions.

Maybe there will be a massive rebound effect coming in the future. Maybe a lot of rebounds. Don’t these people long at some level to be happy and at peace again? And now apparently they’re going to make laughing and mocking at someone else’s obvious awfulness and/or foolishness the new “hate crime”. They should all go watch Mel Brooks’ The Producers and lighten up.

Expand full comment

I know so many people on the left with TDS I feel like an expert on the symptoms and diagnosing their issues. In my experience, it takes very little for them to chirp about how horrible Trump is, and they enjoy it in a very smug way. That crowd feels righteous in their position, and believe themselves to be smarter than everyone else. If anyone mentions supporting Trump, they immediately discard you as "one of them" and look down at you. They all have canned scripts they go to, usually about January 6, and actually talking to them is pointless. Heaven forbid you mention some of the crap Biden (his handlers actually) have pulled and they really lose their minds. They never get tired of being "right" and they will never engage in introspection. Those deeply affected by TDS will never consider any fact or opinion outside their bubble.

The Trump supporters with TDS are almost worse because they support every single thing the man has ever said or done. They are incapable of seeing the flaws or considering that he may be controlled opposition. They all revel in making fun of Biden (fun, I will admit) and are incapable of seeing how someone that isn't immersed in politics might be turned off by Trump.

I think both sides are horrible. Speaker Johnson stood and applauded during Biden's SOTU when Biden mentioned money for Israel, and money for Ukraine. He might as well wear a t-shirt that says "Neocon" across the chest. All of the so-called Tea Party Republicans have not said a peep in nearly four years of rolling over for the DNC. Sure, Ron Johnson or Jim Jordan might pick up some soundbites in some useless hearing, but what has come from any of that? Nothing. At least when Trump was president I was able to laugh at his mean tweets that riled up democrats. But, no matter who "wins" we are equally screwed. Government never relinquishes power, and we have lost enough at this point that they will continue on unhindered. It really is sad.

When I see the NPC's in public excited about Sports Ball or some lame excuse to get drunk like St. Patty's Day, it is depressing. If I didn't vent my frustration on Substack I would just pace around my house talking to myself about how horrible everything is. Actually, I do that also. Thankfully I get outside and exercise frequently to blow off steam.

Venting is something we all need to do from time to time. The comment section is a great place for it.

I was 100% in his corner during the 2016 election and his first few years, but his obvious unwillingness to admit and apologize for his part in the COVID disaster is a big red flag for sure.
