There’s another aspect to the declining activity of the Marxist DAs beyond just destroying civilization. I believe it’s the same aspect we see in public schools, and in every redundant branch of government bureaucracy. Hold on to your seats: These motherfuckers are LAZY. They want the job, because they get a check. They don’t actually want to work. They are perfectly happy to take your money and sit on their chai latte tofurkey asses while they destroy your life, because you deserve it you Trump-Putin-Fox News-Carnivore-White Cis Boom Bah - Heterosexual- RV driving -Won’t Eat TheBugs- racists. I’m gonna go out on a limb and postulate that despite the fact that the case load went from 96K down to 20K, the budget and manpower did not undergo a proportionate nearly 80% reduction. Tell me I got that wrong. Meanwhile if you defend yourself from the sanctified, immaculately portrayed dindu looters and homicidal drug addicted maniacs, you’re the criminal. They did the same thing in Venezuela, doing it now in South Africa, and other Paraisos del Socialismo.

I wish I could tolerate strong drink more. Rant over. Sigh.

The 80% decline in cases filed was associated with a large increase in their annual budget.

I was a prosecutor in the 70s and 80s. I can honestly represent I worked for a living, put people in stir left and right, pretty much no mercy. These guys now take prosecutor jobs because they don't want to work 8 to 8, and on Saturdays, like they civil lawyers.

They actually go home at 3 pm. They are the law school grads who trade bottom scale competition in exchange for loafing through the week and student loan suspension/forgiveness. They rest of us are outraged.

Thank you for, "Trump-Putin-Fox News-Carnivore-White Cis Boom Bah - Heterosexual- RV driving -Won’t Eat The Bugs- racists". I was looking for a term to more accurately express my philosophical position.

Over the last few decades, governments, at all levels, in all jurisdictions, have begun "contracting out" services. (For varying definitions of "services"). Any actual work, such as it is, is performed by people who are not directly employed by governments. Which means said governments can never be held accountable. And, mysteriously, the number of bodies on the payrolls of the contracting departments seem, in many cases, to have increased. A strange phenomenon.

I think a lot of it now is simply political patronage. They put the people in jobs who are most apt to vote for them. They pay them too much money and they can’t be fired. There aren’t too many conservative types looking for work in these agencies because they know it’s a hostile, mind numbingly dumb environment filled with DEI seminars and shuffling meaningless paper.

Expand full comment

Agreed. Senior positions are ALWAYS filled through political patronage. And worker bee positions have become sinecures for diversity hires. Which is why so many of the folks who look after parks, clean public washrooms, patch potholes, or haul away the garbage work for contractors.

Exactly. Let's have a show of hands who is surprised that the Biden Crime family perpetrated the lie! This would only be important if somebody was held accountable. We will wait and see, but I seriously doubt anything will ever happen about this or the huge list of crimes that enriched the criminals and hurt the country. Treason is not too strong a word.

The future, if current trends continue (and everything is looking like they will) is either a Brazil model where the ultra rich live in gated enclaves surrounded by armed guards while everyone else lives outside of it, ultra poor, in a Dindu Thunderdome (the optimist case); or South Africa, which is the same as the Brazil model but with looming genocide hanging over the white minority's heads (the pessimistic case). Either way, anarcho-tyranny where the middle class law abiding citizens get thrown in prison for nothing, while the actual criminals are let out onto the street en masse, will continue unabated...

There are no rules when dealing with the far left. We would all be better off if we realized it and reciprocated.

These people in academia are utopian nihilists. Despite producing nothing, living off the productive, and being exempt from the consequences of their ideology, they think the world is not perfect because of "bad people".

There is no notion or understanding of human nature, of history, basic logic... Nothing. Just a belief that the entire world is "socially constructed", so if they had enough political power to treat other human beings as widgets or cattle, it would be perfect. They will gaslight about anything because they think since the world is socially constructed, if they lie enough, their lies will turn into reality.

There. Are. No. Rules. We all need to wake up and start acting like it.

This break from reality is one of the hardest things about the last 3 years. It was a totally legitimate and reasonable position to pass on the vax. But to do so was described as stupid insane selfish. It IS NOT. They said it would stop Covid. It was Never even tested for transmission. Any apologies or even an acknowledgment “they” were wrong and spread lies? No.

I have acquaintances who have lived in a well heeled New Jersey suburb for years that made the top ten list of safest neighborhoods in the US and now criminals break into homes in their neighborhood that have expensive security systems...just break a window stroll in take the car keys and are gone by the time cops get there. These acquaintances told me just last night a neighbors car that was stolen has a gps thing so they know the car is in Newark. No cops will do anything about it. They can’t get their stolen car back until they want to be vigilantes. Anyone from nyc KNOWS crime is way worse than “before Covid---bail laws changed right before in January 2020---and it is a hands off approach from the cops. For this liar to act like it’s just the usual racist Fox watchers again (subtext “they’re white”) is an insult to normal, reality-observing humans. By the way, the NJ friends I refer to are “brown people” (originally from India).

In the late 90's thru the early 2000's, I worked in Juvenile Justice first in OR, and later in AK. In Anchorage, AK, around 1999, they were just starting to get rolling "restorative justice" policies. What I recall, and I find of note, was that the focus then was on "restoring the community and the victim to wholeness." and NOT on restoring the offender to wholeness or well-being or whatever the terms they use today.

I believed in that approach of "restorative justice." And to see it perverted into the "restorative justice" model we have today is sad, typical, and completely expected considering the current political landscape.

How on earth does your country survive with these half wits in charge? Lost for words.

Expand full comment

It’ll get a lot worse before it gets better. If it ever does.

Expand full comment

What gets me is that when you watch them in action, the ones in charge spend a lot of words congratulating themselves on how much they care for the community and what good work they’re doing. It’s a highly warped world view (which is probably what allows them to completely ignore the public when we object to their actions).

the drop in prosecutions in nyc is more complex than it might seem. for years the cops were required to fill quotas for so-called "quality of life offenses." when they weren't sitting in the back of the police van writing fake summonses (as a former bandmate of mine would regularly do at the end of the month), they went for low-hanging fruit, mostly targeting low-income kids for dumb-ass "crimes" like weed possession or drinking in public.

when the quotas were officially struck down, arrests plummeted and so did prosecution totals.

trouble is, by then, the nypd rank and file had been conditioned to pursue low-level rulebreaking instead of real crimefighting.

my friend who is an assistant DA couldn't get them to track down his GPS-equipped car when it was stolen. he finally found it abandoned in queens after it had been ticketed several times.

paradoxically, crime here actually decreases when the cops go on a work slowdown. the lowlives see them all hanging around doing nothing, but that police presence actually makes a difference!

Anarchotyranny. Gonna get ugly soon.

This is why I believe a path forward is racializing the vax mandates to turn blacks against white liberals. The only way we'll ever get white liberals to support rule of law is if they are subjected to the same sort of disparate treatment. Otherwise they'll just continue stomping on other people for fun.

I want to note my appreciation for your approach. We likely disagree on many object-level policy questions, but I absolutely respect the fact that you cite to actual evidence (including sometimes attaching court documents!) to support your arguments. It's depressing how rare that is within The Discourse™ but such is life.

Expand full comment

Thank you for noticing this. This is one of my core beliefs about how media should function in the age of the Internet -- there's no reason not to show the evidence and let people see it for themselves. It fascinates me that so few writers and publications do.

Expand full comment

Some of it is likely laziness and nihilism borne out of having to shit out Hot Takes for $100 a pop. The more nefarious explanation is when they're aware their arguments are structurally fragile. You can't link to sources, because your audience might find out you're hiding something inconvenient. And you can't lay out your arguments plainly, because you know how stupid it will sound spoken out loud.

An affinity towards truth can only go so far. Some audiences only want more of a specific narrative, and sometimes it's easier and more profitable to just feed their hunger than risk alienating them.

He may have been immersed "a 24-hour news cycle of fear and paranoia." but my guess is it wasn't Fox News or OAN he was watching 24 hours a day! My experience is that it's the Left Wing Media who are the ones talking about "far Right wing nuts, insurrectionists, domestic terrorism, etc."

On the other hand, I will readily admit that Right leaning media is more likely to share news about so called "mostly peaceful demonstrations" and I suspect that there are many who feel the need to defend themselves against these "mostly peaceful" demonstrators.

In most jurisdictions, defending oneself from attacks by "mostly peaceful demonstrators" is now illegal. And will be punished severely. Far beyond the actual extent of the law.

I don't know enough about this story but Russia's treatment of journalists isn't great as we know. However, all these people losing their shit over the mistreatment of journalists are full of it. They consistently remain silent on journalists who were censored right here in North America on social media. And the government played a role in that.

Moreover, they're completely silent on the crackdown on journalists (and Churches) by Zelensky in Ukraine and his alleged 'kill list'.

The hypocrisy is tedious as it is outrageous.

Oftentimes, the issue of what happens after a court verdict, how police conduct investigations and patrols, and what kind of social metrics correlates with what crimes are stirred together, mostly by criminologists who should know better to boot, but who are trained according to social constructionist theory and therefore cannot look at these in reality unrelated factors with anything even approaching pragmatism, realism or impartialness.

Step one should be to answer what the purpose of a law is - not the moral or normative as the cool kids call it - but the practical pragmatic purpose.

Step two is to check if said law and the implementation of same achieves results matching stated purpose.

Step three is to check against costs, tangible and actual only, no "social costs" since they will always be made to fit the argument and are therefore meaningless.

The above musings are nothing special, it's the process we check most things against.
