ROFL! Indeed, indeed. We seem to cling, white-knuckled, to our societal stupidity. Honestly, I've listened to a lot of binary classifications of people for a long time: left vs. right, progressive vs. conservative, rich vs. poor. Those are all bogus. The only one that seems to actually fit the data is people who understand that the building is burning and those who don't.

Despite all of Jordan's Neely's and arrests, he was still on the street. Less than a year earlier, he punched a woman on the subway and caused severe injuries. He was sentenced to a mental health facility that he walked away from a day or two later. Daniel Perry is a retired Marine and when he saw the threatening behavior, he intervened. He was soon helped by 2 other non-white men on the subway. He was restraining him per standard protocols that all declared a choke hold. Neely died. The Medical Examiner released a report very quickly the same day saying the choke hold killed him. No toxicology results have ever been reported.

So of course, Perry was arrested a couple of days later and faces serious charges though he was released on bail. The Soros funded Manhattan DA was fine with letting the clearly dangerous Neely roam the streets but the one guy who tried to prevent his violence will be prosecuted. With that DA's office and a Manhattan jury. The one bright spot is a Give Send Go fund raising page for him that is up to almost 3 million.

Why don't we just call it what it really is:

Racism against white people.

Anyone have a better way to explain it?

Expand full comment

Cracker is the new N word.

The left hunt down and kill cracker babies.

Expand full comment

While that is true, it is also much more than that. It is "racism" against American people, "white crackers" are just easily identifiable targets, for now.

The neo-Bolshevik regime must wipe out all remnants of that dark stain of E Pluribus Unum, of an America bonded by a belief of freedom and liberty, held together with responsibility and ethical integrity.

The old must be destroyed, forgotten, burned by the Ministry of Truth, lest the former is resurrected. The uniformed armies wearing the uniform and foot soldiers wearing their compliance sumbology will be sure to enforce the neo-Bolshevik diktats no matter how absurd or irrational. Their narrative does not cease until all are divided, broken down into self consuming factions, where the few survivors are reborn into their new order.

The next year will decide whether we are scared subway hiders, Neeley enablers or Perrys who will stand and not only resist the decay, but who will push through with the counter offensive to end this occupation.

We're all through the looking glass now.

"When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less."

I chopped down the tree, and now the swing just seems to lie there on the ground. It's a mystery. Maybe an expert can explain it.

You left out the rest of the quote that puts a fine point on it:

“‘The question is,’ said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.

“’The question is,’ said Humpty Dumpty, ‘which is to be master — that’s all.’”

"Unacceptable reality." That sums our problems up nicely. Two ways to deal with it: pretend it doesn't exist, or do something about it that changes the reality to a different reality. Humans have always been good at the second. What happened to us?

We stopped explaining to little Johnny what size rocks to throw at the hobo.

Expand full comment

Hanafi islam specifies that the rocks used may not be larger than you can close your fingers around one of them, so as not to kill the offender too quickly.

I'm unsure whether judaism or christianity ever specified the size of the rocks used for stoning, though both used stoning in the past.

But since the trend today is to let people stone themselves into oblivion?

"Rolleth thy not thine blunt thicker nor longer than it keeps together" might be the new thing.

The problem is that almost everyone in our society requires “permission” to commit violence. Jurors have to be screened to eliminate those who can’t bring themselves to impose the death penalty. In general, this GREATLY improves society and the efficiency of the economy. There are very few people like Daniel Penny who are capable and prepared to deal with the small fraction of society who are violent criminals.

“People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.” - Origin unknown

Is ‘origin unknown’ meant ironically? Just in case I’m *not* being completely tone-deaf, the quote is George Orwell.

The attribution to Orwell is disputed, e.g., https://checkyourfact.com/2019/08/09/george-orwell-rough-men/

I think the correct attribution would be “Richard Grenier (summarizing Orwell).”

Actually the provenance seems to be even more murky than that -- thank you for the info! Sometimes a 'fact' is *too* perfect -- it really does sound exactly like something penned by the author of "Homage to Catalonia" though.

The latter half of the twentieth century had a crime problem worse than ours, that gave rise to movies like "Death Wish" 1974. One difference between then and now is that back then the criminals sought dark streets and alleys to rob and mug and rape. Now they feel safer among a sea of cellphones, confident whatever despicable thing they do will defended by someone.

I think the author of the unherd article is missing the mark. The criminals aren’t thinking like that about the ‘audience’. They simply don’t give a shit one way or the other. They’re on a busy street because there are more cars closer together to target. The angle of this article is a bunch of rubbish. It does, however, do a good job of illustrating what things are like when the bad guys have the guns, and the good guys don’t.

Besides the fact that I live in the area he's writing about, I thought the piece was particularly interesting in light of the very cinematic nature of the October 7 attacks. Haven't you noticed all the video in which stealth on the part of the perpetrator is not a consideration? In places like Oakland and Berkeley, a robbery is viewed almost as a political act (unless it happens to you) and considering how widespread that viewpoint, you can see how a robber might think he's safer in a crowd. I'm ashamed for all the people who think the correct response to street crime is to whip out their cell phone.
