(Charges dismissed on Friday afternoon — see below.)
Dr. Eithan Haim goes to trial on February 10, on multiple felony counts that could land him in federal prison, because he told the public that Texas Children’s Hospital was lying when it announced that it was no longer providing medical procedures to “transition” transgender children. Background here and here, if you don’t remember this one.
I’ve been impressed and relieved by President Donald Trump’s swift action against the Biden DOJ’s lawfare, including his most recent pardons of people imprisoned for violating the FACE Act outside abortion clinics. But Haim’s case seems to have been overlooked, and pleas like this…
…collide with the problem that the slow-moving Senate hasn’t confirmed Pam Bondi or Harmeet Dhillon yet. Trump doesn’t have firm control of the DOJ until all of his appointees take their offices there.
Strangely, the new White House website doesn’t have a page yet that allows you to send a message to the Trump administration. So you can put a postcard in the mail to President Trump today, to this address, asking him to issue a pardon for Dr. Haim immediately:
1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW
Washington, DC 20500
Or call the White House comment line: (202) 456-1111. Note that the comment line is only open between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, Tuesday through Thursday, which is deeply unfortunate and a problem that the White House should fix, so this option requires you to wait until next week. A recorded message on that line gives you a Web address to submit a comment on the White House website, but I just tried it — it doesn’t work.
If you’re not a Californian like me, and therefore not represented in the House and Senate by useless oxygen thieves, you can also call the offices of your Representative and your Senators and ask them to raise the matter of a pardon for Dr. Haim with the White House. Josh Hawley is already working on it, but more voices are needed. Volume will matter. Tens of thousands of messages have a better chance of being heard.
This is something you can do, yourself, personally and directly, and it’s worth the small effort it’ll take. Speak up for Dr. Haim, who told the truth.
UPDATE:
Just filed a few minutes ago:
A subsequent order from the judge is, strangely, sealed, but the DOJ has abandoned the charges.
SECOND UPDATE:
The judge signed the order to dismiss. It’s over.
Judge's order to dismiss just posted on PACER. It's over.
I do enjoy the term "useless oxygen thieves".
