Fascist cops in Georgia brutally arrested a professor at a protest for NO REASON.
“…a professor who had done absolutely nothing.” The story repeats this point as undisputed fact: “Fohlin yelled at the officers to ‘get away’ from the student. She leaned down closer to the student, but did not touch them, or any of the officers.”
Meanwhile, here’s video of the whole thing, with the professor herself explaining what happened, and listen carefully at 2:17:
All she did was walk up behind a police officer who was arresting someone and “impulsively hit him on the head very lightly.” And then, suddenly, for no reason, they arrested her. I think we’ve all walked up behind cops from time to time during arrests and hit them in the head — what’s the big deal? It’s weird that the police would be so mean about being hit from behind like that.
Most of this is wide open for debate. Are the police behaving appropriately? Are the protests within the bounds of First Amendment activity that should be protected? (Consider this evidence, though.) Fire away. Let’s talk about it. But ffs, let’s end the culture of make-believe. The Daily Beast needs to hear from a libel lawyer.
It is possible a positive correlation may exist between tenure in certain academic fields and a sense of consequence immunity in all social interactions. More research needed.
Kids do that. “I’m not touching you! I’m not touching you!” And then actually do it. And are shocked at the consequence.
Children. We’re dealing with very adult children.
